John Summit has swapped the DJ booth for the Ibiza coastline, joining Ibiza Hike Station and a group of volunteers to help clean one of the island's most remote coves.
The American house music star took part in a coastal cleanup in June as part of Hike Station's ongoing environmental initiatives. The team removed around 80kg of plastic and marine waste from the hard-to-reach location.
The operation was far from an easy beach clean-up. Volunteers faced an approximately one-hour descent to reach the shoreline, followed by around 90 minutes collecting waste before tackling another hour-long climb back up, with more than 300 metres of elevation involved and temperatures already high for June.
The waste included plastic bottles, food containers, fragmented plastics and microplastics that had accumulated along the rocky coastline. Because of the cove's difficult access, conventional municipal cleaning services rarely reach the area, making volunteer initiatives particularly important for removing debris from these more isolated parts of the island.
The initiative was organised with Ibiza Hike Station as part of its wider "Hike to Clean" programme, which regularly brings volunteers to remote beaches and natural areas around the island. Earlier in 2026, the organisation had already carried out several challenging clean-up operations, including one that removed hundreds of kilograms of waste from secluded coves and another that involved technical rope work to recover around a tonne of rubbish from difficult-to-access coastal areas.
John Summit's involvement comes during his first Ibiza residency with Experts Only at [UNVRS], giving the initiative an extra level of international visibility. His Ibiza summer has increasingly shown a side of the DJ that extends beyond the dancefloor, with Summit also embracing hiking, fitness and other outdoor activities on the island.
In an interview about his Ibiza residency, Summit explained that Experts Only was intended to be about more than just the party, with the team also organising running groups, hikes and beach cleanups to encourage people to connect with the island beyond nightlife.
For Summit, the cleanup was ultimately about giving something back to the island.
As Ibiza continues to welcome huge numbers of visitors every summer, initiatives like this highlight the environmental pressure placed on the island's coastline and the importance of protecting its more fragile natural spaces.
And for one of the biggest names in electronic music, it was a chance to use his platform for something well beyond the dancefloor.
