A large bus breakdown caused major traffic disruption in Ibiza on Sunday morning, with queues lasting for almost two hours after the vehicle became stranded near the Unvrs roundabout.
The bus, measuring approximately 15 metres long and fitted with three axles, broke down just after leaving the roundabout in the lane heading towards Sant Antoni.
Major Traffic Disruption
Because of the size and position of the vehicle, the breakdown created a significant obstruction at one of Ibiza's busy traffic points.
The incident caused long queues and delays lasting almost two hours, affecting numerous drivers travelling through the area during the morning.
The location is particularly important during the summer season, when traffic levels increase significantly as residents, workers and visitors move between Ibiza Town, Sant Antoni and other parts of the island.
Emergency Traffic Operation
Traffic officers from the Guardia Civil were called to the scene together with workers from the island's road network service.
Their teams worked to regulate traffic and redirect vehicles while efforts were made to remove the stranded bus.
Two roadside assistance teams from Grúas Ibiza were also required to carry out the difficult recovery operation.
After several manoeuvres, they managed to move the bus away from the road and into a safe area, allowing traffic to gradually return to normal.
One of Ibiza's Biggest Buses
The vehicle involved was not an ordinary small passenger bus.
At around 15 metres long and with three axles, it is among the larger and heavier buses operating on Ibiza's roads.
Its size made the mechanical failure particularly disruptive, as there was limited room for other vehicles to pass while the bus remained stranded near the roundabout.
Summer Traffic on Ibiza
The incident highlights how quickly a breakdown involving a large vehicle can cause significant congestion on Ibiza during the busiest months of the year.
With thousands of vehicles travelling around the island each day during peak season, key roundabouts and connecting roads can become heavily congested when an accident, breakdown or other obstruction occurs.
For drivers heading towards Sant Antoni on Sunday morning, what began as a mechanical failure quickly turned into a substantial traffic delay.
Fortunately, the bus was eventually removed and the road was able to return to normal operation.
