A 27-year-old man was seriously injured on Sunday evening after falling approximately 17 metres into the sea at sa Figuera Borda, in the Platges de Comte area of Ibiza.
The emergency call was received at around 8:12pm, prompting the deployment of two SAMU 061 ambulances, including an advanced life-support unit, as well as firefighters from Ibiza.
Serious Back Injury
When medical teams reached the young man, they found that he had suffered a significant back injury as a result of the fall.
After assessing his condition and the difficult terrain around the accident site, emergency crews determined that he should be evacuated by land rather than by sea.
Firefighters from the Ibiza Island Fire Service assisted medical personnel with the rescue.
Difficult Rescue From the Coast
The location at sa Figuera Borda presented additional challenges for the emergency teams.
The injured man had to be immobilised and extracted from the rocky coastal area before being carried to the waiting ambulance.
Six firefighters were involved in the rescue operation, according to La Voz de Ibiza, with the young man transported by stretcher up the narrow access route from the coast.
Once the rescue was completed, the advanced life-support ambulance transported him to the Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario, where he was admitted with a serious prognosis.
