The Consell de Ibiza has opened the first 10 sanction proceedings against private vehicles found circulating on the island without the required authorisation, marking the start of the enforcement phase of Ibiza's new vehicle-entry and circulation restrictions.
The regulation came into force on June 1, 2026, with the aim of controlling the number of vehicles arriving and circulating on the island during the high season. The first cases were detected during an initial inspection campaign.
Fines Can Reach €10,000
Drivers found violating the rules can face fines ranging from €1,001 to €10,000, depending on the nature and seriousness of the infringement.
The 10 proceedings involve private vehicles that were detected on Ibiza's roads without the necessary authorisation.
Importantly, these are sanction proceedings that have been initiated; they are not yet final fines.
Controls Now Moving Into a New Phase
The Consell says enforcement is now entering a second phase, with authorities using mobile licence-plate recognition cameras at different locations around the island.
Authorities are currently reviewing 422 vehicle registrations to determine whether the vehicles have the required permits. One of the monitoring locations is Cala d'Hort, an area that experiences particularly high visitor and traffic levels during summer.
The system complements two existing licence-plate cameras at the port, with plans to progressively expand the network and integrate it with other vehicle-monitoring systems.
Fewer Vehicles Entering Ibiza
The restrictions are part of Ibiza's broader strategy to manage traffic and reduce the pressure created by the island's seasonal vehicle numbers.
Between May and July 2026, 129,434 vehicle movements were recorded at Ibiza's port, according to figures reported by Cadena SER. That represents a 13.7% reduction compared with the same period in 2024, equivalent to 20,532 fewer movements over two years.
The Consell has also indicated that the maximum vehicle quota has not yet been reached, meaning the island is currently operating below the established limit.
