Large and wonderfully carved 19th Century Italian giltwood mirror.This magnificent mirror retains its original gilding which has aged beautifully and acquired a fine patination.Impressive large size and must have been made for a very important house.The theme of the decoration is floral, an anthemion cresting resting above scrolls of foliage which is attached to a rectangular frame which is carved with repeating leafy motifs.The bottom left and right corners of the mirror are ornamented with carved stylised cartouche-like flower head motifs, a version of which also sits beneath the anthemion cresting at the top of the piece.All of the carving is executed in high relief with great delicacy, indicating a workshop of some importance.---Height: 177.5cmWidth: 225cmDepth: 4cm
