Ibiza Driver Arrested and Sent to Prison After Fleeing Scene of Serious Motorcycle Collision

October 30, 2026

A 35-year-old Italian motorcyclist remains in critical condition at Son Espases University Hospital in Mallorca after being struck by a car whose driver allegedly fled the scene of the collision in Ibiza.

The accident happened on Wednesday evening, 28 October, at the roundabout popularly known as the Rotonda de los Podencos, near the entrance to Ibiza Town. The female driver was subsequently located by police, arrested and later sent to prison after testing positive for alcohol and drugs, according to information confirmed by Ibiza Town Council and reported by local media.

The incident has prompted further attention after investigators established that the driver had reportedly been involved in another minor traffic accident shortly before the collision.

Motorcyclist Suffered Serious Head Injuries

Emergency services received the first call at 18:36 on Wednesday, reporting a collision between a car and a motorcycle at the roundabout connecting Avenida de Santa Eulària, Avenida Vuit d'Agost and the port area.

According to the SAMU 061 emergency service, the driver of the car left the scene without assisting the injured motorcyclist.

Two ambulance units attended the incident: one advanced life support unit with a doctor and one basic life support unit.

The injured man, a 35-year-old Italian national, suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and was initially taken to Can Misses Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit at 19:23.

Due to the severity of his condition, doctors subsequently arranged an emergency transfer to Son Espases University Hospital in Palma.

The medical evacuation took place by helicopter late on Wednesday night, with the transfer reported at approximately 23:45 to 23:48.

He remained in critical condition following the transfer, according to reports published on Thursday.

Driver Allegedly Fled After Two Separate Accidents

Information provided by Ibiza Town Council revealed that the woman driving the car had reportedly been involved in an earlier minor collision in Carrer Corona, in the Can Misses neighbourhood, before reaching the Rotonda de los Podencos.

Following that incident, she allegedly left the scene and continued driving.

She subsequently collided with the motorcyclist at the roundabout, with the impact reportedly throwing him several metres.

The driver then left the scene again, abandoning the injured man.

Police located her shortly afterwards in the car park of the Eroski supermarket on Avenida Sant Joan, a short distance from the collision site.

Officers from the Ibiza Local Police and National Police were involved in locating her.

Alcohol and Drug Tests Return Positive Results

On Thursday, 29 October, Ibiza Town Council confirmed that the driver had tested positive for both alcohol and drugs.

The woman, reported to be 34 years old, of Swiss origin and resident in Ibiza, was arrested following the incident and subsequently placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.

According to Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera, she entered prison on Thursday afternoon.

The positive test results and the circumstances surrounding the two reported collisions form part of the information reported about the investigation. Any criminal responsibility must be determined through the judicial process.

Investigation Continues Following the Serious Collision

The incident has highlighted the serious consequences of leaving the scene of a traffic accident, particularly when another person has suffered life-threatening injuries.

Emergency medical teams, police officers and hospital personnel were involved in the response, treatment and investigation following the collision.

The injured motorcyclist remains the central concern as he continues to receive specialist medical care in Mallorca.

Authorities have not publicly released the identities of those involved.
