Ibiza Care Homes Open Their Doors to the Public to Showcase Daily Life at Can Blai, Can Raspalls and Sa Serra

30 October 2026 г.

Three residential care centres in Ibiza have opened their doors to the public for two days of activities designed to bring residents, families, students and the wider community closer together. Can Blai, Can Raspalls and Sa Serra welcomed visitors on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 October, offering guided tours, workshops, demonstrations and opportunities to experience some of the activities that form part of residents' daily routines.

The initiative, organised for the first time across these centres on the island, aimed to improve public understanding of residential care and highlight the work carried out by the professionals who support older people and individuals with care needs.

The programme also provided an opportunity for students preparing for careers in healthcare and social services to discover the different professional roles and facilities within the residential sector.

Can Blai: Sharing Everyday Life Inside a Care Home

At Can Blai, in Santa Eulària, the programme focused on showing visitors what a typical day looks like for residents.

Wednesday's activities included cognitive stimulation sessions with the centre's psychologist, functional therapies led by occupational therapists and physiotherapists, guided tours and a tasting of the residence's regular menu.

The afternoon included a discussion led by director Miriam Riera, exploring common misconceptions and the realities of living in a residential care centre in the 21st century.

Thursday's programme introduced visitors to additional activities, including a floral workshop organised in collaboration with Vanai Ibiza, sensory stimulation sessions in the Snoezelen room and a bolero concert performed by Duo Band.

Riera explained that one of the most valuable aspects of the initiative was the opportunity for residents to meet people from outside the centre and share activities with them.

Families also took part. Cristina, whose mother Sole has lived at Can Blai since July, welcomed the opportunity to spend time with her and other residents during the activities.

She described the experience as a positive opportunity for families to share meaningful moments with their loved ones.

Can Raspalls Welcomes Around 200 Visitors

Can Raspalls received approximately 200 visits over the two days, including students, family members and people interested in discovering the centre's facilities and services.

On Wednesday morning, around 70 visitors attended, including students from IES Sa Serra, pupils from Colegio Sant Antoni and residents' relatives. A further 20 people visited during the afternoon.

Thursday brought three groups of students in the morning, totalling approximately 65 people, followed by around 30 additional visitors in the afternoon, including family members and vocational training students specialising in the social-healthcare sector.

The programme showcased several areas of the centre, including its Snoezelen multisensory stimulation room, hydrotherapy facilities, person-centred care services and supervised housing.

Visitors could also take part in workshops making traditional panellets and dried flowers, alongside sporting and musical activities organised with students from IES Balàfia and IES Algarb.

The programme extended beyond residential care, with guided visits to the centre's mental health and disability day services.

A further session addressed the elimination of physical restraints in disability care, led by Ester Micó from Dignitas-Vitae, an organisation based in Valencia.

Sa Serra Introduces Visitors to Care Work and Daily Activities

In Sant Antoni, Sa Serra welcomed students, families, social-healthcare organisations and professionals interested in learning more about the residence and its work.

Students from the Higher Vocational Training programme at IES Balàfia organised an exercise and movement workshop for residents, encouraging interaction and participation.

The programme also included a session about eliminating physical restraints, led by Ester Micó. Students from IES Algarb's Intermediate Vocational Training programme in Care for Dependent People attended, alongside representatives of Sant Antoni Social Services, Amadiba, Esplai Xerinola, the Area of Health of Ibiza and Formentera (ASEF), and Ibiza IN Inclusión y Apoyo a la Diversidad.

The centre's official programme also included guided tours, demonstrations of its multisensory facilities, group activities, adapted menu presentations and practical introductions to different care professions.

One of the objectives was to introduce younger visitors to potential training and employment opportunities in the social-healthcare sector.

Building Stronger Connections Between Residents and the Community

The open days also highlighted the importance of companionship and social interaction for people living in residential care.

At Can Blai, Andrea, a worker with Fundación Aldaba, attended alongside Marga to participate in a floral workshop.

She explained that initiatives of this kind give residents opportunities to spend time with people beyond their usual daily environment and strengthen their sense of belonging to the wider community.

The first edition of the open days has therefore focused on more than simply presenting facilities and services. By bringing together residents, relatives, students, healthcare professionals and local organisations, the initiative has created opportunities for intergenerational activities, shared experiences and a better understanding of residential care across Ibiza.
