Casa Lola Fatal Fire Investigation: Suspected Perpetrator Allegedly Visited Can Misses as Further Arrests Are Reported

05 November 2026 г.

The investigation into the fatal fire at Casa Lola in Sant Josep has taken a significant new turn, with reports that the man suspected of starting the blaze went to Can Misses Hospital while the victim was still fighting for his life. According to a report published by La Voz de Ibiza on 5 November 2026, the suspected perpetrator allegedly visited the hospital to establish whether the injured man had died. The Guardia Civil investigation has also resulted in further arrests.

The case concerns a 48-year-old Paraguayan man who suffered burns to approximately 90% of his body when a fire broke out in a makeshift dwelling at Casa Lola on 27 September. He was taken to Can Misses Hospital in critical condition and died later that afternoon.

Investigators are reportedly examining a possible motive involving jealousy and alleged death threats. However, the identity of the person suspected of starting the fire, the precise circumstances of the reported hospital visit and the details of the additional arrests have not been made public in the reporting available for independent verification.

The Fatal Fire at Casa Lola

The fire broke out shortly after 07:00 on Sunday, 27 September, in a makeshift dwelling inside the Casa Lola property, located in the municipality of Sant Josep, in the Porroig area.

The emergency coordination centre received the call at approximately 07:10. Six Ibiza firefighters attended the incident with two vehicles, including a water tanker and a heavy rural fire engine.

The flames affected the dwelling and nearby objects, including awnings, chairs and gas cylinders. A small area of surrounding vegetation was also affected.

The victim, a 48-year-old Paraguayan national, suffered extremely serious burns covering approximately 90% of his body. The SAMU 061 emergency medical service transferred him to the intensive care unit at Can Misses Hospital, activating the serious trauma protocol.

Despite medical treatment, he died at around 17:00 that afternoon, according to information confirmed by the Pitiusan Health Area.

Guardia Civil Investigates Possible Deliberate Arson

Following the fire, the Guardia Civil opened an investigation to establish its origin.

On 29 September, the force confirmed that it was keeping all possible explanations open and had not ruled out a criminal origin. Investigators were examining indications that the fire might have been deliberately started.

Three Guardia Civil patrols subsequently visited Casa Lola on 1 October as part of the investigation. The officers inspected the settlement, where the victim had been living, and continued gathering information about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation was therefore already being treated as a possible criminal case before the latest developments reported in November.

Alleged Visit to Can Misses While the Victim Was Dying

One of the most disturbing details in the latest report by La Voz de Ibiza concerns the alleged behaviour of the man suspected of starting the fire.

According to the newspaper, the suspected perpetrator went to Can Misses Hospital while the victim was still alive and receiving treatment for his extensive burns. The report says he went there to check whether the 48-year-old man had died.

The allegation adds a new dimension to the investigation, although the publicly accessible information does not establish the exact timing of the visit, how the individual accessed the hospital or what evidence investigators have gathered concerning his actions.

It is important to distinguish this reported allegation from an established judicial finding. No conviction has been reported, and the suspect must be presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Investigation Examines Possible Jealousy and Death Threats

Another important line of investigation concerns a possible personal conflict involving jealousy.

Earlier reporting by IB3 on 2 October said investigators were examining whether an alleged romantic relationship and threats made against the victim could have been connected to the fire.

NouDiari had also reported statements from people close to the deceased who alleged that he had received death threats in the hours before the blaze. The publication described these accounts as witness testimony and information from sources close to the victim, rather than conclusions established by the Guardia Civil.

The possible connection between the alleged threats, a personal dispute and the fire is therefore an investigative hypothesis. The available reporting does not establish that jealousy was definitively the motive or that the alleged threats have been independently proven.

Further Arrests Reported as the Investigation Advances

The 5 November report by La Voz de Ibiza also refers to further arrests arising from the Guardia Civil investigation.

However, the accessible information does not specify how many additional people have been detained, their identities, the precise allegations against them or whether they are suspected of direct involvement in starting the fire.

It would therefore be premature to describe all those detained as perpetrators or accomplices. Arrests indicate investigative action, not guilt.

The next developments will be important in establishing whether investigators believe the fire involved one person or several, and what roles, if any, the additional detainees are suspected of having played.

Casa Lola Had Already Been the Scene of Serious Incidents

The fatal fire occurred against the background of months of conflict and serious incidents at Casa Lola, a property in Es Cubells that had become an informal settlement of caravans, tents and makeshift dwellings.

The property had been at the centre of a long-running urban-planning dispute before becoming occupied by a large number of people. During 2026, several violent incidents and fires were reported at the site.

An earlier serious incident in July involved a person allegedly pouring petrol over another resident and setting him alight during a dispute. That incident also resulted in an arrest.

The property was subsequently subject to a judicial eviction order. On 27 October, the Guardia Civil, Sant Josep Local Police and municipal social services attended the site to carry out the eviction, which was completed without reported incidents, according to Europa Press.

The eviction and the fatal-fire investigation are separate legal proceedings. The completion of the eviction does not resolve the circumstances of the man's death.

Investigation Continues

The latest reports suggest that the Guardia Civil has made further progress in its investigation into the fatal fire, with additional detentions and new information concerning the suspected perpetrator's alleged actions after the incident.

Nevertheless, several important questions remain unanswered, including the identity of the person suspected of starting the fire, the precise motive, the significance of the reported hospital visit and the roles of those additionally detained.

Until investigators or judicial authorities release further information, the allegations must remain attributed to the reporting sources and the presumption of innocence must be respected.

The case remains one of the most serious incidents connected with Casa Lola in 2026, following the death of a man who suffered catastrophic burns in the September fire.
