The Ayuntamiento de Ibiza has asked residents to avoid putting rubbish in public street containers on Tuesday, 10 November, and during the night leading into Wednesday, 11 November, as municipal waste collection services prepare for disruptions caused by the planned general strike.
The strike, scheduled for Wednesday, 11 November 2026, will affect municipal waste collection in Ibiza town under the minimum service arrangements established for the day.
The changes will particularly affect commercial door-to-door waste collection, with glass and light packaging collections suspended and residual waste collection reduced by 50%. Organic waste and commercial cardboard collections will continue operating normally.
The municipality is asking residents and businesses to cooperate by temporarily adjusting their waste disposal arrangements to prevent rubbish from accumulating in public spaces.
Changes to Commercial Waste Collection
The main changes concern the door-to-door collection service, known as Puerta a Puerta (PAP), which serves commercial waste producers.
The revised arrangements will affect the night of Tuesday, 10 November, into Wednesday, 11 November, as well as services scheduled throughout the strike day.
The collection arrangements will be:
-
Glass: Collection suspended.
-
Light packaging: Collection suspended.
-
Residual waste: Collection reduced to 50%.
-
Organic waste: Normal service maintained at 100%.
-
Commercial cardboard: Normal service maintained at 100%.
For residual waste, collection will prioritise hospitals, residential care homes and markets to ensure that essential facilities continue receiving the necessary service.
Businesses affected by the suspended or reduced collections are being asked not to place the relevant waste outside their premises during the night of 10–11 November. Instead, they should keep it stored safely until normal collection services resume.
Residents Asked to Avoid Using Public Containers
The strike will also affect general municipal waste collection in Ibiza town.
To minimise disruption and prevent the accumulation of rubbish in public areas, the Ayuntamiento de Ibiza recommends that residents avoid depositing waste in street containers throughout Tuesday, 10 November, and during the night of 10–11 November.
Where possible, households are encouraged to bring forward or postpone their usual waste disposal until collection arrangements return to normal.
The municipality has also specifically asked residents not to leave furniture, household items or other bulky waste on public streets during this period.
This instruction applies even where bulky waste collection is normally scheduled according to the usual neighbourhood collection calendar.
The council is asking residents to cooperate with these temporary recommendations to help maintain cleanliness and public health during the industrial action.
Waste Collection Services Adjusted for the General Strike
The general strike on Wednesday, 11 November, will affect several public services across the Balearic Islands.
In Ibiza, the municipal council has announced the waste collection adjustments in accordance with the minimum services arrangements applicable to the strike.
The municipal recommendations are intended to reduce the amount of rubbish left in public spaces while collection services operate with restrictions.
Residents and businesses are therefore encouraged to plan their waste disposal in advance, avoid leaving bulky items on the streets and follow the temporary instructions issued by the municipality.
The Ayuntamiento de Ibiza has thanked the public and local businesses for their understanding and cooperation, stressing the importance of maintaining appropriate cleaning and hygiene conditions throughout the strike.
