Ibiza Allocates €5.7 Million in Capitality Funding for 2027, Including €871,000 for Sa Graduada Renovation

October 23, 2026

Ibiza Town will receive €5.714 million in capitality funding for 2027, with €871,050.23 earmarked for the renovation of the former Plaça de sa Graduada. The funding package also includes an expansion of the Can Ventosa Cultural Centre and the installation of air conditioning at the Paco Vázquez sports centre, alongside support for municipal services.

The allocation was approved at a meeting of Ibiza’s Capitality Council on Thursday, 22 October 2026. The total matches the amount assigned for 2026 and combines contributions from the Balearic Government and the Island Council of Ibiza.

Three Projects to Receive Island Council Funding

The Island Council of Ibiza will contribute €1,714,200 towards three municipal projects in 2027.

The largest allocation, €871,050.23, will fund the renovation of the former Plaça de sa Graduada. The site is associated with the courts in Ibiza Town, and the planned works form part of the municipality’s investment programme.

A further €705,000 will go towards expanding the Can Ventosa Cultural Centre, one of the town’s principal cultural facilities.

The remaining €138,149.77 has been allocated to installing air conditioning at the Paco Vázquez sports centre.

Together, the three projects account for the full €1,714,200 contribution from the Island Council.

€4 Million for Police, Cleaning and Urban Mobility

The Balearic Government will provide the remaining €4 million in capitality funding.

This contribution is intended to support municipal services connected with the Local Police, street cleaning and urban mobility. The precise distribution between the three areas will be determined according to service needs and planning.

The funding is part of the financial support provided to Ibiza Town in recognition of its role as the capital of the island. Its administrative and service responsibilities extend beyond those of a municipality serving only its resident population.

Funding Remains at the 2026 Level

The total allocation for 2027 is unchanged from the €5.7142 million assigned for 2026.

Under the previous year's distribution, the Island Council contribution supported the expansion of Can Ventosa and the renovation of Avinguda de Comte Rosselló. The Balearic Government's funding also supported the Local Police, cleaning and mobility services.

The framework is governed by Law 16/2019, which established Ibiza's special capitality status. The legislation was amended in 2025 to provide greater flexibility in managing capitality funding and establish minimum annual contributions.

The revised framework requires the Balearic Government to contribute at least €4 million annually, with the Island Council responsible for the remaining share under the statutory funding arrangement.

Review of Previous Investments

The Capitality Council's meeting also included a review of investments financed in previous years.

The 2027 allocation provides funding commitments for the three named municipal projects and the three service areas. However, the approval of funding should not be interpreted as confirmation that the works have started or that the projects are already operational.

The next stages will involve the relevant planning and implementation processes for each investment, while the allocation for municipal services will be determined according to the needs of the respective departments.
