The Federación Socialista de Ibiza (FSE-PSOE) has officially begun its primary processes to select the candidates who will lead the party's lists in the May 2027 elections.

The process will cover the Consell de Ibiza and the town councils of Ibiza Town, Santa Eulària des Riu and Sant Josep de sa Talaia.

The timetable was approved and ratified by the PSIB-PSOE Executive Committee at a meeting on August 31, with the process now moving into its first formal stage.

Precandidacies Open This Week

The first deadline in the process is the presentation of precandidacies.

Those wishing to stand can formally submit their candidacy between September 4 and September 7 at 12:00 noon.

Applications must be submitted in writing and registered at the headquarters of the corresponding Socialist organisation.

This stage will determine how many candidates are seeking the nomination in each of the four processes.

What Happens If There Is More Than One Candidate?

If more than one person puts themselves forward for a particular position, candidates will need to obtain between 15% and 20% of the endorsements of the party membership in the relevant organisation.

The period for collecting and submitting these endorsements will run from September 9 to September 16.

If more than one candidate meets all the requirements, Socialist members will then vote.

The first round of voting is scheduled for September 26.

What If There Is Only One Candidate?

A vote will not necessarily be required in every case.

If only one precandidacy is presented and it meets the necessary requirements, there will be no need to collect endorsements or hold a primary vote.

That person will automatically become the party's candidate for the relevant position.

This means the final outcome of each process will depend partly on how many people decide to enter the race.

Four Key Election Processes

The current timetable applies to four important Socialist selections on Ibiza:

• Consell Insular d'Eivissa

• Ibiza Town

• Santa Eulària des Riu

• Sant Josep de sa Talaia

These will determine who heads the PSOE's electoral lists in some of the island's most important institutions in the 2027 elections.

The municipalities of Sant Antoni de Portmany and Sant Joan de Labritja, which have smaller populations, will follow later dates established in the PSOE's federal electoral calendar.

The First Names Are Already Emerging

The opening of the primary process comes as potential candidates are beginning to announce their intentions.

One of the first is Vicent Roselló Ribas, the Socialist councillor in Sant Josep and secretary general of the FSE-PSOE, who has announced his intention to compete for the party's nomination for mayor of Sant Josep in 2027.

Roselló said he is running because of his commitment to the municipality and what he considers a need for a new stage in the town's administration.

His announcement means the Sant Josep process already has at least one publicly declared candidate, although the primary process will determine whether other candidates enter the race.

Looking Ahead to May 2027

The municipal and island elections are still months away, but the start of the primary process marks an important early stage in Ibiza's political calendar.

The PSOE now has a defined timetable for choosing its candidates, while individual politicians have the opportunity to put themselves forward.

The coming weeks will reveal how many candidates seek the Socialist nominations and whether contested primaries will take place in Ibiza Town, Santa Eulària, Sant Josep and for the Consell.

For now, the first key date is September 4, when the formal period for submitting precandidacies begins.

The first round of voting, where required, is scheduled for September 26, 2026.
