Ibiza is famous for spectacular parties, but one gathering off the island's coast offered a view of the scene from a rather unusual perspective: space.

A satellite image from 2024 shows around 22 yachts gathered off Punta des Jondal, creating a striking formation in the Mediterranean. The image has been highlighted by environmental group Terraferida and was recently featured by Luxury Launches.

The image does not show a live view of Ibiza today, nor does it identify the individual guests aboard the yachts. But it provides a remarkable picture of just how concentrated Ibiza's luxury yacht scene can become during the summer.

22 Yachts Gathered Off Punta des Jondal

The yachts were gathered in the waters off Punta des Jondal, one of Ibiza's best-known destinations for luxury boats.

From sea level, a gathering of this size is already impressive. From above, however, the yachts appear as a single cluster spread across the Mediterranean.

According to Luxury Launches, the gathering was connected to a promotional event involving Smart Charter, bringing boats together to create a large floating venue where guests could move between different yachts.

The event also provided an opportunity to showcase charter boats ahead of the busy summer season.

The Image Came From a Satellite

The photograph that attracted attention was taken by the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellite, which orbits roughly 488 miles above Earth.

The satellite imagery captured the concentration of boats around Ibiza and offered an unusual perspective on the island's summer yacht activity.

It is worth stressing that the image dates from 2024. It should therefore not be interpreted as a photograph of the current number of yachts gathered off Ibiza.

Instead, it captures one particularly large gathering and illustrates the scale that the island's yacht scene can reach.

The Gathering Has Grown Over Time

The 2024 gathering was not an isolated event.

Luxury Launches reports that a similar gathering involved around 19 boats and more than 200 people in 2023, while the number rose to approximately 22 yachts in 2024.

The publication also reports around 24 boats at Es Jondal in 2025, while social media posts from the 2026 season opener have referred to a fleet of 25 boats.

These figures come from different reports and social media posts, so they should be treated as reported numbers rather than an official annual count.

Why Punta des Jondal?

Punta des Jondal, commonly known as Cala Jondal, has become one of Ibiza's most popular destinations for yachts.

The bay's sheltered setting and proximity to well-known beach clubs make it particularly attractive for visitors arriving by boat.

Beach clubs including Blue Marlin Ibiza, Jondal and Tropicana are located around the bay, allowing people aboard yachts to combine time on the water with Ibiza's famous beach-club scene.

The result is a distinctive part of the island's summer landscape, where dozens of boats can gather offshore while visitors move between the sea and the coastline.

A Snapshot of Ibiza's Luxury Yacht Scene

Ibiza has become an important destination for the Mediterranean charter industry, with the Balearic Islands accounting for a significant share of Spain's recreational boat registrations intended for rental.

Luxury Launches reports that the Balearic Islands registered 321 recreational boats intended for rental in 2025, representing almost a quarter of Spain's total of 1,418. These figures cover recreational rental boats generally and do not specifically represent superyachts or party boats.

The satellite image therefore offers more than an unusual photograph.

It provides a visual snapshot of how the island's waters can look during the height of the summer season, when luxury yachts become an important part of Ibiza's tourism landscape.

From the Sea to Space

There is something particularly striking about seeing Ibiza's famous summer lifestyle from hundreds of miles above Earth.

From the ground, the yachts look like individual vessels enjoying the Mediterranean.

From space, 22 of them gathered together become a single enormous cluster.

It is an unusual reminder of just how busy Ibiza's coastline can become during the summer months, particularly around popular destinations such as Cala Jondal.

And while the satellite image does not tell us who was aboard the yachts or how much was spent on the gathering, it certainly gives a new perspective on Ibiza's extraordinary summer yacht scene.
