A woman in Sant Antoni is urging dog owners to take extra precautions after she says she was injured while protecting her own dog from another animal during a morning walk.

According to the woman's account, the incident happened at around 7:15am on Thursday, September 17, in the new Vara de Rey boulevard area of Sant Antoni.

She says a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, a breed classified as potentially dangerous under Spanish regulations, escaped from its collar while being walked on a lead and approached her and her dog without a muzzle.

Woman Says She Was Injured Protecting Her Dog

The woman, who shared her account and photographs on social media, says she immediately intervened when the other dog approached her pet.

She says she placed herself between the two animals and was eventually knocked to the ground while trying to protect her dog.

According to her account, she suffered scratches and other injuries to her knee and thigh, as well as a broken fingernail.

She says her own dog was not injured.

Owner Was Unable to Restrain the Dog Immediately

The woman says the owner of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier attempted to regain control of the animal but initially struggled to do so.

According to her account, she continued protecting her dog until the owner eventually managed to restrain the animal.

She later said the owner was deeply affected by what had happened and had been concerned about her condition.

Two Sant Antoni Town Hall workers who were in the area also came to assist following the incident, according to the woman's account.

Following the incident, the woman says she went to the Sant Antoni Local Police, who advised her to formally report what had happened.

She subsequently attended an emergency department for treatment and received a medical report documenting her injuries.
