Sant Josep Local Police have released video footage showing how officers detected and dismantled an alleged illegal villa party in the municipality, using a combination of WhatsApp intelligence, drone surveillance and patrols on the ground.

The video, published by the police on social media on September 8, shows the operation from the first warning about the planned event through to the identification of the suspected organiser and a subsequent drug-driving positive.

The footage provides an unusual behind-the-scenes look at how authorities are increasingly trying to detect private villa parties before large numbers of people arrive.

The Investigation Started With a WhatsApp Invitation

According to the police video, officers first became aware of the planned gathering after obtaining an invitation circulated through a WhatsApp group.

The invitation advertised a party at a private villa and stated that access was available by invitation.

It also included the location of the meeting point and information about the DJs who were expected to perform.

The police commentary makes clear that the meeting point was considered important because guests were expected to gather there before being transported to the property where the party was due to take place.

Police Used a Drone to Search for the Meeting Point

Once officers had the location information, they deployed a drone equipped with an infrared camera.

The drone was used to search the area around the indicated meeting point and identify vehicles or activity consistent with the expected gathering.

The police footage shows the drone scanning different locations before officers identified a person inside a parked vehicle.

Initially, officers did not consider the vehicle sufficient evidence on its own and continued observing the area.

A second vehicle then attracted their attention.

A Second Vehicle Becomes the Focus

Police say the second vehicle was of particular interest because its driver appeared to be connected to the organisation of the event.

The vehicle was parked with its lights on, prompting officers to continue monitoring it.

The drone operator observed the vehicle from above while a ground patrol moved into the area.

According to the footage, the driver appeared to notice the drone.

He then left the car park, apparently trying to avoid the surveillance operation.

The Suspected Organiser Returns

The operation did not end when the vehicle left.

Police continued monitoring the movements of the driver, who later returned to the same car park.

A Local Police patrol then intercepted the vehicle.

Officers identified the driver as the person they suspected of organising the event.

The intervention allowed police to disrupt the operation before the planned gathering could develop into a large villa party.

A Drug Test Adds Another Element to the Operation

The operation also resulted in a separate traffic intervention.

The video shows a driver undergoing a drug test, which returned a positive result.

The police have not presented the positive test as evidence that the driver was necessarily the organiser of the party, and the circumstances of the individual test should be distinguished from the investigation into the event itself.

The positive result nevertheless became part of the operation shown in the footage.

The Party Was Dismantled Before It Could Begin

One of the most significant aspects of the operation was its timing.

Police were able to intervene before the party reached the stage seen in previous villa-party operations, where hundreds of people may already be inside a property.

That early intervention meant the authorities could dismantle the event before a large crowd gathered.

It also limited the potential impact on nearby residents, roads and public spaces.

Police Say Illegal Villa Parties Carry Wider Risks

Sant Josep Local Police used the video to explain why they consider illegal villa parties a public-safety issue rather than simply a question of loud music.

The force says such events can create risks for people attending and third parties, as well as traffic and parking problems.

Police also point to the absence of safety measures that would normally be required for an authorised entertainment activity.

Noise and disruption to neighbours are another concern.

The Meeting Point Is Often the Weak Link

Organisers of private villa parties may attempt to keep the final venue discreet.

Earlier Operation Involved More Than 250 People

The latest video also comes after a much larger operation in Sant Josep earlier in the summer.

In July, Local Police dismantled an alleged illegal party at a property known as Casa Paola in the area of Es Cubells.

More than 250 people were evacuated from that event.

Police had identified two meeting points, including one near CEIP L'Urgell, before officers moved to the property.

The operation also resulted in a driver being reported after testing positive for drugs.

Authorities Are Trying to Act Earlier

The contrast between that July operation and the latest case illustrates the evolution of the police strategy.

When an illegal event is already underway, authorities can be faced with hundreds of attendees and significant traffic and security challenges.

Stopping an event at the meeting-point stage is considerably more straightforward.

The September operation therefore demonstrates the value of acting before guests reach the villa.

Ibiza's Continuing Battle Against Villa Parties

Unauthorised villa parties remain a persistent issue in Ibiza, particularly during the main tourism season.

The events can attract large numbers of people to private properties that were not designed or licensed to operate as entertainment venues.

For authorities, the problem involves several overlapping areas, including licensing, noise, road safety, public order and environmental impact.

Sant Josep, which contains many of Ibiza's major nightlife areas as well as extensive rural and residential zones, has been particularly active in targeting these events.

Social Media and Messaging Apps Are Central to Detection

The latest case also illustrates how digital communication has changed the way these parties are organised.

The initial invitation was circulated through WhatsApp, allowing organisers to distribute information about the event and meeting point directly to potential guests.

At the same time, those digital communications can provide police with information that would otherwise be difficult to obtain.

This creates a cat-and-mouse dynamic in which organisers attempt to keep locations discreet while investigators monitor the channels through which events are promoted.

Police Want the Video to Send a Message

By releasing the footage publicly, Sant Josep Local Police are also making a broader statement.

The video shows that authorities are actively monitoring illegal party networks and can combine digital intelligence with aerial surveillance and patrols.

The intended message is that organisers should not assume a private villa or invitation-only format will prevent police intervention.

The force says it will continue acting against unauthorised events in the municipality.

Residents living close to villas used for large gatherings can be affected by noise, increased traffic and large numbers of unfamiliar vehicles.

Roads and parking areas can also become congested, particularly when guests are concentrated at meeting points.

Police argue that preventing the parties before they begin is therefore also a way of protecting local communities.

A More Targeted Approach

The latest operation shows a relatively targeted model.

Rather than carrying out a large intervention at the villa once the event is underway, officers identified the digital invitation, located the meeting point and focused on the individuals involved in organising the gathering.

The drone provided surveillance from above, while patrol officers handled the interception on the ground.

That combination allowed the event to be stopped before it developed.

No Large Crowd Reached the Villa

The biggest practical success of the operation was that the suspected party never became a large gathering.

The authorities were able to identify and intercept the suspected organiser before the guests were transported to the property.

The police video therefore documents an intervention at an early stage rather than a mass eviction.

That is increasingly the objective of Sant Josep's efforts against illegal villa parties.
