Ibiza Town Hall has completed a special cleaning and disinfection operation around all schools in the municipality ahead of the start of the 2026-27 academic year.

The municipal cleaning service intensified work in the surroundings of the city's educational centres during the days leading up to the return to classrooms on Thursday, September 10.

The operation has included pressure washing, street sweeping, weed removal, graffiti removal and deodorising work, with the aim of ensuring that the areas surrounding schools are in good condition when pupils return.

Special Cleaning Operation Ahead of the Return to School

The Town Hall said the additional cleaning operation was organised specifically around the beginning of the new school year.

Work was carried out around all educational centres in the municipality, with particularly intensive activity on Wednesday, September 9, the day before classes officially resumed.

The measures covered not only standard street cleaning but also more targeted work designed to address accumulated dirt and other issues in the public areas surrounding the schools.

The operation forms part of the municipality's regular responsibility for maintaining public spaces around educational facilities.

Pressure Washing and Weed Removal

Among the work carried out was cleaning with high-pressure equipment and industrial hydro-cleaning machines.

These methods allow pavements and other hard surfaces around school entrances to be cleaned more thoroughly than through routine sweeping alone.

Municipal teams also carried out vegetation and weed removal in the areas surrounding the centres.

This type of maintenance is particularly relevant after the summer months, when vegetation can grow rapidly and public spaces may require additional attention before the new school year begins.

Graffiti and Odour Treatment Included

The operation also included the removal of graffiti in areas around the educational centres.

Deodorising treatments were carried out as part of the wider cleaning programme, alongside conventional sweeping and washing.

The municipality described the operation as a comprehensive preparation of the areas surrounding schools rather than simply a standard cleaning round.

The objective is to improve the general condition and appearance of public spaces used daily by pupils, families and school staff.

Schools Across the Municipality Covered

The special operation was carried out outside all educational centres located within Ibiza municipality.

Among the schools specifically included were CEIP Cas Serres, CEIP Sa Bodega, CEIP Can Misses, CEIP Blancadona, CEIP Poeta Villangómez and CEIP Sa Joveria.

These centres serve different neighbourhoods of Ibiza and form part of the city's network of public education facilities.

By carrying out the work across all of the centres, the Town Hall aimed to ensure that the start of the academic year was accompanied by consistent maintenance of the surrounding public areas.

Classes Begin on September 10

The cleaning operation comes just before the official start of the 2026-27 school year in the Balearic Islands.

Classes for infant education, primary education, special education, secondary education, baccalaureate and other specified basic educational stages begin on Thursday, September 10.

The first cycle of infant education, covering children aged 0 to 3, is joining the same official school calendar for the first time this academic year.

The school year will run until June 18, 2027 for most of these stages, with specific exceptions for certain levels.

Preparing the City for Thousands of Students

The return to school represents a major annual change for Ibiza's streets, with thousands of children and young people travelling to educational centres each morning alongside parents, teachers and other staff.

Keeping entrances, pavements and surrounding streets clean therefore has an impact beyond the appearance of the individual schools.
