Sant Antoni Invests €750,000 in Improvements to Schools During 2026

September 12, 2026

Sant Antoni de Portmany Town Hall has invested around €750,000 in improving and maintaining educational facilities across the municipality during 2026.

The programme includes works at several schools and municipal education centres, with projects ranging from accessibility improvements and repairs to upgrades of sports facilities, classrooms and outdoor areas.

Improvements Across Several Centres

The investment has been distributed among the municipality's different educational facilities.

The works are designed to address both immediate maintenance needs and longer-term improvements to the condition and functionality of the centres.

Among the projects are repairs to school buildings, improvements to outdoor spaces and upgrades intended to make facilities more accessible and comfortable for students and staff.

Accessibility and Safety

A significant part of the programme focuses on improving accessibility and safety.

Works include adaptations to entrances and common areas, together with improvements to infrastructure that allow students and staff to move more easily around the centres.

The municipality has also carried out maintenance work intended to address deterioration caused by the intensive use of the facilities and the island's environmental conditions.

Sports Facilities Also Upgraded

Several of the projects concern sports areas used by students.

Improvements to courts and other outdoor sporting facilities have been included in the investment programme, helping to modernise spaces used during school hours and extracurricular activities.

The works are also intended to improve safety and usability for children and young people.

Preparing Schools for the Academic Year

Much of the work has been carried out during periods when schools are closed or operating with reduced activity, allowing the municipality to complete maintenance with less disruption to students.

The objective is to ensure that the educational centres are ready for the new academic year with essential repairs and upgrades already completed.

The investment also forms part of the municipality's wider responsibility for maintaining school facilities and responding to requests from individual centres.

A Seven-Figure Commitment to Education Infrastructure

Although the €750,000 programme is spread across multiple projects, the combined investment represents a significant commitment to municipal education infrastructure.

For Sant Antoni, maintaining the condition of public schools is particularly important as educational facilities are used intensively throughout the year by students, teachers, families and community groups.

The municipality says the programme reflects its aim of continuing to improve school environments rather than limiting spending to emergency repairs.

Work Continues During 2026

The investment programme remains part of the municipality's ongoing maintenance strategy, with additional work planned according to the needs identified by individual educational centres.

The projects completed during 2026 are intended to provide more functional, accessible and safer spaces for students across Sant Antoni.

With around €750,000 allocated to improvements during the year, the municipality is putting significant resources into its public education facilities and their long-term upkeep.
