About the SPQR Pendant

SPQR, Senatus Populusque Romanus (the Senate and the Roman People), these initials represented the essence of ultimate power in Rome: the people and the Senate.

This motto was created over 2,000 years ago and could be seen on official documents, coins, and military standards. Today, it is still present on the eternal city's coat of arms as a symbol of the people's power.

Until recently, for me, SPQR were the initials on the standards carried by the poor Roman soldiers whom Asterix and Obelix would often make short work of in their battles. It was in their comics that I first saw this acronym. After careful research, I discovered that Obelix's famous phrase "These Romans are crazy" translates in Italian as "Sono Pazzi Questi Romani", whose initials are precisely SPQR. What would we do without these coincidences that make us smile every day.
