Detalles del producto

This coffee comes from Giku Hill, a coffee hill located in the Butanyerera province of Burundi, and processed at the Ninga Washing Station, a relatively new washing station within the Long Miles Coffee project. In this remote area of the country, coffee is much more than a crop: it is an essential part of the lives of hundreds of families who depend on it for their livelihood. In the 2025 harvest, 742 small producers delivered their cherries to this washing station.

Ninga was built in 2019, about 10km from Bukeye station, after detecting that many farmers in the region had to travel long distances to find washing stations with fair scales and transparent payments for their cherries. Located at about 1900m altitude and surrounded by the Nkokoma river, the station allows producers in the area to process their coffee closer to home, strengthening the local economy and improving the traceability of the lots.

The region is extremely isolated. To reach Giku Hill you have to travel more than 15km of dirt roads, cross rivers and cross provincial borders. Although small rivers run through the landscape, access to drinking water or electricity remains limited for many communities. Even so, the hills are covered with coffee trees growing around the roads, fields and adobe houses of the farmers.

Over the years, the conflicts that have affected the country sometimes forced many farmers to temporarily abandon their land. When they returned, they found their coffee trees waiting for them, and little by little they rebuilt their plots. Despite this complex history, the Ninga hills have produced elegant and complex coffees since their first harvests, known for their clarity and structure in the cup.

The coffee trees in this area are mainly Bourbon, grown at around 1700m altitude, and processed at the washing station using different methods, with the washed process seeking to highlight the purity and character of the origin.

A coffee that reflects both the resilience of Burundi's coffee communities and the extraordinary potential of these hills.
