Fundación Abel Matutes Spent €1.56 Million on Social and Environmental Programmes in 2025
The Fundación Abel Matutes spent €1,564,179.11 on social and environmental programmes during 2025, almost 50% more than the previous year, according to its first annual report presented institutionally in Ibiza.
The foundation carried out more than 250 initiatives across six countries during the year, reaching more than 9,800 beneficiaries and involving around 1,200 volunteers from Palladium Hotel Group.
Ibiza and Formentera remained a significant part of its work, with 72 actions carried out across the two islands during 2025.
Spending Increased by Nearly 50%
The foundation's expenditure increased substantially compared with 2024.
In 2024, the organisation recorded €1,046,373.35 in expenditure. In 2025, that figure rose to €1,564,179.11.
The difference was €517,805.76, representing an increase of approximately 49.5%.
It is important to note that these figures refer to the foundation's reported expenditure for the year, rather than a €15 million investment.
More Than 250 Initiatives in Six Countries
During 2025, the foundation's activity extended across Spain, Italy, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Brazil.
More than 250 initiatives were carried out, reaching over 9,800 beneficiaries.
Around 1,200 Palladium Hotel Group employees also participated as volunteers in different projects.
The foundation was established in 1978 from the vision of Abel Matutes Juan and currently operates alongside Palladium Hotel Group's wider corporate social responsibility programme, Palladium Cares.
72 Actions in Ibiza and Formentera
The Pitiusas accounted for 72 actions during 2025.
Of these, 40 were related to social and childhood programmes, 23 to sport and 9 to culture.
The foundation continued its support for organisations and initiatives in Ibiza and Formentera, including the Un Mar de Posibilidades programme run by Club Náutico Ibiza.
It also contributed to the reconstruction of Casa de Betania, a Cáritas Ibiza facility dedicated to supporting young people in vulnerable situations.
Training for Employment Arrives in Ibiza
One of the foundation's notable developments in Ibiza during 2025 was the launch of professional training programmes in collaboration with Cáritas Ibiza and the Escuela de Hostelería.
The initiative provided training in two areas, kitchen assistance and hotel housekeeping.
During the first edition, 30 people received training.
According to the foundation, 25 of those participants are now working.
The programme is intended to improve participants' employment opportunities rather than simply provide recruitment for Palladium Hotel Group. The training is designed to give participants skills that can also be used with other employers or in future self-employment.
More Than 1,500 People Received Training
Education and professional training were major components of the foundation's international work.
More than 1,500 people received training through its professional training centres during 2025.
The programmes include initiatives such as the Fundación Abel Matutes scholarships and vocational training centres operating in several countries.
Ibiza joined this wider training network during 2025 through the partnership with Cáritas and the Escuela de Hostelería.
Where the €1.56 Million Went
The foundation's 2025 expenditure was divided among several areas.
Social and educational programmes accounted for €690,167.54.
Employment training received €340,265.78.
Social-impact initiatives accounted for €282,264.25.
Promotion of Ibiza and Formentera represented €177,543.99.
Environmental projects accounted for €73,937.55.
Together, these figures correspond to the foundation's reported total expenditure of €1,564,179.11 for the year.
Environmental Spending Rises Sharply
Environmental work recorded one of the largest increases during 2025.
The foundation reported a 198.91% increase in environmental investment compared with the previous year.
Its environmental programme included biodiversity conservation, marine initiatives and projects addressing food waste and the circular economy.
The OREKA project, for example, enabled 2,613 meals to be donated, while biodiversity programmes included work involving the protection of the Ibiza wall lizard and marine turtle conservation in several international destinations.
Posidonia and Marine Conservation in Ibiza
Marine conservation was also highlighted during the presentation in Ibiza.
The Fundación Blue Life's work includes research and restoration linked to Posidonia oceanica and other marine ecosystems.
A BlueLife Hub has been established at Grand Palladium Select Palace Ibiza as a space for conservation, education and training.
The facility is not simply an aquarium. According to the project team, fragments of Posidonia held there are part of a process leading towards restoration work in the marine environment.
The space also includes living gorgonians rescued from situations including the effects of ghost fishing nets.
Monitoring Ibiza's Seahorses
The marine programme also includes monitoring of seahorses around Ibiza.
According to the foundation's presentation, 19 seahorses were monitored in Ibiza during the latest period.
The monitoring forms part of wider efforts to better understand and protect marine biodiversity associated with Posidonia meadows.
The foundation says these ecosystems provide habitat and refuge for a wide range of marine species.
Sport and Culture Across the Islands
Sport remained another important area of activity in Ibiza and Formentera.
The foundation renewed its annual support for island football clubs working with children and young people.
Its cultural support included initiatives aimed at younger generations, including Eivissàpiens, Ibiza Cine Fest and Fantasía Ibiza Festival.
These projects formed part of the nine cultural actions recorded across the Pitiusas during 2025.
International Work Continues to Expand
The foundation's activity was not limited to the Balearic Islands.
Its programmes operated across six countries during 2025, with projects covering social support, education, employment training, environmental protection and emergency assistance.
One example was the response to Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica, where more than $50,000 in emergency assistance was mobilised for 1,300 affected employees and for housing reconstruction, according to the foundation.
The organisation also expanded its 4 Causes 4 Quarters programme, which brings together social organisations and volunteers around four areas: the planet, older people, equality and childhood.
A Growing Role for Employees and Volunteers
Employee participation is an important part of the foundation's model.
During 2025, around 1,200 Palladium Hotel Group employees participated in its initiatives.
The 4 Causes 4 Quarters programme alone involved 53 NGOs and generated more than 3,000 hours of volunteering during the year.
The foundation says its model combines direct projects, partnerships with social organisations and corporate volunteering.
Ibiza Remains Central to the Foundation
Despite the expansion of its work internationally, the foundation continues to place particular importance on Ibiza and Formentera.
The 72 local actions covered social programmes, childhood initiatives, sport and culture, alongside education, employment training and environmental conservation.
Carmen Matutes Prats, president of the foundation, emphasised during the presentation that the international expansion does not mean abandoning its connection with Ibiza.
The foundation's origins are closely linked to the island and the Matutes family's business activity there.
What the 2025 Report Shows
The Fundación Abel Matutes' first institutional annual report provides a detailed picture of its activity during 2025.
The foundation spent €1.56 million during the year, up almost 50% from 2024, and reported more than 250 initiatives across six countries.
In Ibiza and Formentera, 72 actions covered social and childhood programmes, sport and culture, while new professional training programmes were introduced in partnership with Cáritas and the Escuela de Hostelería.
Environmental activity also expanded significantly, with reported spending in that area increasing by 198.91%.
The figures show an organisation that is expanding internationally while continuing to maintain a substantial programme of social, educational, cultural, sporting and environmental activity in the Pitiusas.
