A minor traffic collision in Córdoba allegedly turned into a robbery after a young driver was forced to withdraw €300 from an ATM following a confrontation with the occupants of another vehicle.
The incident occurred in early October at a roundabout in the La Torrecilla industrial estate. According to the National Police, the young man had lightly collided with the rear of another car.
What initially appeared to be a minor traffic incident escalated when several occupants of the other vehicle demanded immediate payment for the alleged damage.
Young Driver Taken to a Cash Machine
Following the collision, two of the occupants allegedly forced the young driver into their vehicle and took him to a cash machine.
Once there, they demanded an amount greater than the sum initially requested, using intimidation to make him comply.
The victim made several cash withdrawals and ultimately handed over a total of €300.
Police Identify Two Suspects and Make an Arrest
After receiving information about the incident, the National Police launched an investigation to establish what had happened and identify those allegedly responsible.
Within 24 hours, investigators had identified the vehicle involved and two of its occupants as suspected participants. Subsequent enquiries also produced evidence supporting the young man's account, according to the police.
The following week, officers located and arrested the alleged main perpetrator in connection with a suspected offence of robbery with intimidation.
The investigation remained open when the arrest was announced on 29 October, with police continuing to establish the involvement of the other people allegedly involved. Further arrests had not been ruled out.
The case highlights how a seemingly minor traffic collision can escalate into a serious criminal incident when alleged offenders use intimidation to demand money from another driver.
