Mari Carmen García Guevara, 25, Still Missing After Urda Train Disaster as Family Provides DNA Samples

October 30, 2026

The search continues for Mari Carmen García Guevara, a 25-year-old woman from Inca, Mallorca, who was travelling on one of the trains involved in Wednesday’s fatal collision in Urda, Toledo. Her family has now formally reported her disappearance to the Guardia Civil and provided DNA samples to help investigators establish her whereabouts.

Mari Carmen was living and working in Madrid and was travelling to Seville for professional reasons when the accident occurred on 28 October. According to information published by IB3, she was travelling with colleagues and is believed to have been on one of the affected trains.

As of Friday, 30 October, there has been no confirmed information about her location or condition.

Family provides DNA samples to assist the search

Mari Carmen’s parents have travelled to the area to try to establish what happened to their daughter. After initially searching hospitals and seeking information about people evacuated from the crash site, the family has now filed a missing-person report with the Guardia Civil.

They have also provided DNA samples to support the identification process. These samples can help authorities compare family DNA with unidentified victims as part of the ongoing forensic work.

The Guardia Civil is coordinating the search and identification procedures alongside forensic specialists and other emergency services.

A colleague has been located in hospital

IB3 reported on Friday that one of the colleagues who was travelling with Mari Carmen had been located and was receiving hospital treatment. According to sources close to the young woman’s circle, the colleague was intubated and sedated.

This development has not resolved the uncertainty surrounding Mari Carmen. Her family is still waiting for confirmed information about her whereabouts.

Incorrect information caused further confusion

The search has been complicated by incorrect information circulated in the immediate aftermath of the collision.

On Wednesday, an initial report suggested that Mari Carmen had been located and admitted to a hospital in Toledo, and that she was out of danger. The information was subsequently corrected by IB3, which acknowledged that its earlier report was wrong.

The correction confirmed that the young woman had not been located and that her condition remained unknown. The Balearic Government president, Marga Prohens, had initially repeated the earlier information before explaining that the regional government was making enquiries after learning that it was inaccurate.

Prohens said the Govern was carrying out various steps to try to obtain reliable information, but declined to provide further details out of respect for the family.

Identification work continues after the Urda collision

The search for Mari Carmen is taking place as authorities continue the difficult identification process following the collision between two trains in Urda, Toledo.

By Friday, the official death toll stood at 69. Authorities had also registered 70 missing-person reports connected with passengers on the trains. Two people initially reported missing had subsequently been found alive, while five victims had been formally identified and their families notified, according to information released during the forensic identification process.

The Guardia Civil has asked relatives of people who remain unaccounted for to use the official channels established for the identification process. Family DNA samples are among the measures being used to help establish the identities of victims.

For Mari Carmen’s family, the priority remains finding reliable information about their daughter. Until the authorities confirm her whereabouts, she must continue to be reported as missing.
