Ibiza Human Trafficking Investigation: 25 Women Freed After Alleged Recruitment Through Fake Job Offers

October 11, 2026

Twenty-five women have been freed in Ibiza following a Civil Guard operation targeting an alleged criminal organisation suspected of human trafficking for sexual exploitation. Four people were arrested, and investigators seized nearly €120,000 in cash during searches at properties across the island.

The operation, named Gecaroni, concluded on 5 October 2026 after several months of investigation. According to the Civil Guard, the women were recruited mainly through false job offers in hospitality and manicure services before being forced to provide sexual services to repay an alleged debt.

The four arrested individuals are suspected of offences including coercive prostitution, drug trafficking and money laundering. The allegations remain subject to judicial proceedings.

False Job Offers and an Alleged €5,000 Debt

Investigators say the organisation targeted women from vulnerable circumstances, mainly Venezuelans aged between 18 and 25. The women were allegedly offered legitimate work in Spain and travelled expecting to take up employment.

According to the Civil Guard, members of the group collected them at the airport and removed some of their belongings and cash. They were then taken to properties associated with the organisation and told they owed approximately €5,000, which they were expected to repay through sexual services.

Investigators allege that the women were subjected to strict control and intimidation. Their immigration circumstances were reportedly used to make them afraid to approach police, healthcare providers or support services.

Alleged Surveillance and Client Recruitment in Playa d’en Bossa

The investigation identified surveillance methods allegedly used to monitor the women’s movements, including direct supervision and video-surveillance systems.

According to investigators, client contacts were arranged through messaging applications and by presenting women at certain locations in the Playa d’en Bossa nightlife area. Some were allegedly transported to clients’ private homes.

The Civil Guard says the organisation concentrated much of its activity in Ibiza during the summer season and moved part of its operations to other areas of mainland Spain after the season ended.

Suspected Drug Sales and Money Laundering

Investigators believe the organisation generated income not only through sexual exploitation but also through the alleged sale of drugs and sexual-performance products to clients.

The Civil Guard says the proceeds were associated with a high-spending lifestyle, including the rental of luxury homes and vehicles. Investigators also examined a financial structure and the possible use of companies linked to the alleged organisation’s leader to launder proceeds from illegal activities.

These suspected financial offences form part of the investigation and have not been established by a final court judgment.

Four Arrests and Nearly €120,000 Seized

The police operation included four searches at properties in different parts of Ibiza. Officers arrested four people and freed the 25 women.

The items seized included nearly €120,000 in cash, suspected drugs, electronic devices and equipment believed to be connected to surveillance and the organisation’s activities.

The investigation is overseen by Court No. 2 of the Section for Violence Against Women at Ibiza’s Court of Instance. Several Civil Guard units participated, including judicial police teams, specialist officers investigating sexual offences, the Central Operative Unit, reserve and security groups, and the canine service.

Judicial Proceedings Remain Ongoing

Operation Gecaroni has resulted in the release of 25 women and the arrest of four suspects, according to the Civil Guard. Investigators are examining alleged human trafficking for sexual exploitation alongside suspected coercive prostitution, drug trafficking and money laundering.

The arrests do not constitute convictions. Responsibility for the alleged offences must be determined through the judicial process, and the suspects retain the presumption of innocence.

The case also highlights the importance of identifying deceptive employment offers and ensuring that people brought to Spain under false promises can access protection and support.
