DANA Adam: 13 Emergency Incidents Remain Open in Ibiza and Formentera

21 October 2026

Thirteen emergency incidents remained unresolved in Ibiza and Formentera on Tuesday, 20 October, following the passage of Storm DANA Adam, according to the Balearic Islands Government. Although weather alerts had been downgraded across the archipelago, recovery operations continued in the Pityusic Islands as emergency services worked to deal with the consequences of widespread flooding.

The 112 Emergency Coordination Centre had registered and managed 410 incidents across the Balearic Islands during the weather episode. All 13 outstanding cases were in Ibiza and Formentera, involving flooding in buildings, commercial establishments and public spaces.

Weather Alerts Reduced as Recovery Operations Continue

The Directorate General for Emergencies and the Interior reduced the Meteobal civil protection alert for rain and thunderstorms to yellow across the Balearic Islands.

However, the Inunbal flood emergency plan remained at operational level 2 in Ibiza and Formentera, while Mallorca was at operational level 0. The authorities said the situation would be reassessed on Wednesday as they continued monitoring the effects of the storm.

According to the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the episode was approaching its final phase, although unsettled weather conditions had not completely disappeared.

Emergency personnel continued working to remove water and mud from flooded areas and help affected locations recover. The response involved the Military Emergency Unit (UME), firefighters from Ibiza and Formentera, the Balearic Institute of Nature (IBANAT) and Civil Protection services.

Emergency Officials Inspect the Worst-Affected Areas of Ibiza

On Tuesday, Pablo Gárriz, the Balearic Government's Director General for Emergencies and the Interior, visited several areas of Ibiza affected by the heavy rainfall.

After chairing a coordination meeting at the advanced command post in sa Coma, Gárriz travelled to the EI-800 road leading to Ibiza Airport, including the roundabout near the racecourse, where the underpass had been affected by flooding.

He also visited Platja d'en Bossa and Ibiza Town, where the UME was carrying out water extraction operations.

In the municipality of Santa Eulària des Riu, emergency personnel worked in Es Canar to remove accumulated water from an area where cars had become trapped in a dirt car park.

The inspection concluded at Es Figueral beach, where water flowing down the torrent had carried sand out to sea, leaving part of the beach severely affected.

The Government said it was prepared to provide assistance and technical advice to the island's municipalities as they continued assessing the damage.

Government Highlights Preventive Measures

The Balearic Government attributed part of the comparatively lower level of damage, despite heavier rainfall than in the previous year, to preventive and preparedness measures implemented over the past 12 months.

According to the administration, these efforts involved coordination between the regional government, the Ibiza Island Council and the island's municipal authorities.

This assessment was presented by the Government as part of its explanation of the response to the storm. Recovery work and the monitoring of the affected areas remained ongoing on Tuesday.

Gárriz was scheduled to visit Formentera on Wednesday to assess the damage caused there and examine the areas most seriously affected by the flooding.

For Ibiza and Formentera, the immediate priority remained the completion of outstanding emergency interventions while authorities continued to evaluate the consequences of DANA Adam.
