Major Water Outage Hits Thousands in Ibiza, Disrupting Figueretes and Platja d’en Bossa

10 October 2026

Thousands of residents in Ibiza Town were affected by a major water-supply failure on Friday, 9 October 2026, after a fault in a main pipeline interrupted service across several neighbourhoods.

The outage began at approximately 09:00 and particularly affected Figueretes and Platja d’en Bossa. Buildings in Cas Serres and Casas Baratas were also affected.

Water supplies began returning during the morning as Aqualia, the company responsible for the water network, worked to repair the fault and redirect water from other sectors of the city.

The incident was reported as resolved before 14:00, although some areas initially experienced low water pressure as the supply was restored.

Figueretes and Platja d’en Bossa Among the Worst-Affected Areas

The fault occurred in a main pipeline supplying the Figueretes and Platja d’en Bossa areas, according to information provided by Aqualia.

The company did not release an exact figure for the number of people affected. However, the scale of the disruption suggested that thousands of residents were impacted, as the two principal neighbourhoods are among the most densely populated parts of Ibiza Town.

The repair operation continued throughout the morning. While work was underway at the affected pipeline, technicians began opening connections to other sectors of the city's network to help restore water to affected properties.

Es Viver Municipal Swimming Pool Temporarily Closed

The outage also forced Ibiza Town Council to close the municipal swimming pool at Es Viver temporarily.

The facility was left without water in its showers and bathrooms, making it impossible to guarantee the required hygiene and sanitary conditions for visitors.

The council explained that swimmers must shower before entering the pool and that the facility could not operate safely without an adequate water supply.

The pool was therefore closed until service could be restored and the proper operating conditions re-established.

Cause of the Pipeline Failure Not Disclosed

As of the reports published on Friday, the precise cause of the failure had not been made public.

Aqualia confirmed that the incident involved a main supply pipeline but did not provide further details about what had caused the damage.

The company and repair teams focused on restoring service throughout the morning, with the outage reported as resolved before 14:00.

Water Service Restored After a Disruptive Morning

The incident disrupted daily life for residents across several parts of Ibiza Town and temporarily affected a municipal sports facility.

Although the exact number of people impacted remains unknown, the concentration of residents in Figueretes and Platja d’en Bossa meant the outage affected a substantial part of the local population.

By early afternoon, the repair work had been completed and the water supply had been restored. The cause of the failure, however, remained undisclosed in the available reports.
