The future of agriculture and livestock farming in Ibiza will be the focus of the second edition of Foro Sembra Futur, an educational initiative bringing together 180 students from seven schools across the island with farmers, livestock breeders and agricultural professionals.
Organised by Ibiza & Formentera Preservation through its Ibiza & Formentera Producen programme, the event will take place on Tuesday, 10 November 2026, at the Centro Cultural de Jesús. Under the theme Arrels que inspiren (Roots That Inspire), the forum aims to introduce younger generations to the professional opportunities offered by the rural sector and demonstrate how traditional agricultural activities can evolve through sustainability and innovation.
Connecting Young People with Ibiza's Agricultural Sector
The second Foro Sembra Futur will welcome 180 students from seven educational centres: IES Sa Colomina, IES Sa Blanca Dona, IES Santa Maria, IES Sa Serra, Liceo Francés, IES Algarb and CIFP Can Marines.
The initiative is designed to bring the world of agriculture closer to young people, highlighting opportunities in farming and livestock production as potential professional paths.
Rather than presenting the countryside exclusively through its traditional image, the programme explores how agriculture and livestock farming can contribute to a modern, sustainable and innovative economy.
The forum also creates opportunities for students to meet people already working in the sector, hear about their professional experiences and discover the different possibilities available within the rural economy.
Farmers Share Their Experiences and Career Journeys
The morning will begin at 09:30 with a welcome from Inmaculada Saranova, director of Ibiza & Formentera Preservation.
From 09:40 to 10:20, the programme will feature an inspirational presentation entitled Agricultura y ganadería como presente y futuro de vida (Agriculture and Livestock Farming as a Present and Future Way of Life).
The speakers will be Kika Márquez, a farmer from Mallorca, and Mario Selo, an agricultural producer from Madridejos in Toledo who works with pistachios, olives and vineyards.
Their contributions will explore different experiences within the agricultural sector and the possibilities of developing a professional future through farming.
Following the first presentations, participants will have a breakfast break from 10:30 to 11:00, featuring local products provided by ASPANADIF.
The programme will then continue from 11:00 to 11:30 with Paula Nuévalos, an agricultural producer specialising in organic grapes and almonds from Utiel, Valencia. Her presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the audience.
The Future of Ibiza's Countryside
One of the central sessions will focus specifically on the agricultural sector of Ibiza.
Scheduled from 11:45 to 12:30, the discussion El Campo de Ibiza: Un futuro por descubrir (The Ibiza Countryside: A Future to Discover) will bring together three participants representing different perspectives on the island's rural economy.
The speakers will include:
-
Juan Ascanio, a student at CIFP Can Marines.
-
Eva Ferrer, from sa Granja de Can Malacosta.
-
Neus Costa, a veterinarian and livestock farmer at Granja des Fornàs and member of Carn&Coop.
The discussion will provide an opportunity to explore the future of agriculture and livestock farming in Ibiza through the experiences of someone studying the sector and professionals already working within it.
By bringing together education, agricultural production and livestock expertise, the session aims to encourage students to consider the different opportunities available in the island's rural economy.
Quiz Futur Rural and Closing Activities
The educational programme will conclude with Quiz Futur Rural, an interactive competition scheduled from 12:30 to 13:00.
The activity will give students an opportunity to test their knowledge and engage with the themes explored throughout the morning in a more participatory format.
The forum will conclude with a final session of conclusions and closing remarks between 13:00 and 13:10.
Supporting the Next Generation of Ibiza's Agricultural Sector
The second edition of Foro Sembra Futur forms part of the wider work carried out by Ibiza & Formentera Preservation to support a more sustainable rural economy across the Pityusic Islands.
Through its Ibiza & Formentera Producen programme, the foundation works to promote local agricultural production, strengthen connections between producers and consumers, and encourage greater recognition of the environmental and economic importance of the primary sector.
The forum builds on the first edition, held in November 2025, which brought together more than 130 secondary-school students from five educational centres.
By expanding participation to 180 students from seven schools in 2026, the initiative continues its work connecting younger generations with farmers, livestock breeders and other professionals who are helping shape the future of agriculture in Ibiza.
The event receives support from the Balearic Government and the Consell Insular d'Eivissa, with collaboration from Cooperativa Agroeivissa-Ecofeixes, Cooperativa Carn&Coop and CIFP Can Marines.
