The Fireta des Calamar and the 10th Fira Gastronòmica des Calamar, scheduled for Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October 2026 in Sant Carles de Peralta, have been postponed following the declaration of three days of national mourning after the railway accident in Toledo.
The Ajuntament de Santa Eulària des Riu announced the decision on Wednesday 28 October, confirming that both events, organised as part of the Sant Carles patron-saint festivities, will take place on new dates to be announced later.
The postponement affects two of the main gastronomic activities planned for the Halloween weekend in the village.
Both Gastronomic Events Postponed
The first event affected is the Fireta des Calamar, which was due to make its debut on Friday 30 October.
The afternoon gathering had been planned as a new addition to the Sant Carles festivities, bringing squid-based tapas and live music to the village's pedestrian streets from 17:00.
The following day, Saturday 31 October, was scheduled to host the tenth edition of the Fira Gastronòmica des Calamar, one of Sant Carles' established autumn gastronomic events.
The town council has confirmed that neither event will go ahead on its originally announced date.
What Was Planned for the Weekend?
The Friday Fireta was scheduled to feature four live music performances. The Rosemary Family was due to open the programme at 17:00, followed by Pep Còsmic i es Verros de Balàfia at 18:30. Eribertho was scheduled for 20:00, with Los del Varadero closing the evening from 21:30.
Saturday's tenth Fira Gastronòmica des Calamar was due to begin at 11:00, with participating establishments and other contributors offering different preparations of squid.
The programme also included children's activities, competitions and prizes for the best recipes, alongside live music throughout the afternoon and evening.
Groove Garage was scheduled for 17:00, followed by Arredefolk at 19:00 and Orquestamelase at 21:30.
All these activities are now postponed, and the original timetable should no longer be considered valid.
New Dates to Be Announced
The decision follows the three days of national mourning declared in Spain after the serious railway accident in the province of Toledo.
In its official statement, the Ajuntament de Santa Eulària des Riu confirmed that the new dates for both events would be announced at a later stage.
The postponement applies specifically to the Fireta des Calamar and the X Fira Gastronòmica des Calamar. The municipality has not announced the cancellation of the entire Sant Carles patron-saint programme.
Visitors and residents are advised to wait for the town council's updated announcement before making plans to attend either gastronomic event.
