Two businesses on Calle Castilla in Ibiza Town suffered damage to their metal security shutters during Halloween night, Saturday, 31 October, prompting calls from local traders for increased police surveillance in the town centre.
The affected establishments were Vanity, a hair salon, and CT Home Luxury, according to the Eivissa Centre merchants' association.
The shutters at both businesses were pushed and damaged during the night, leaving the owners facing repairs and uncertainty over the final cost.
Emergency Repair Needed at Vanity Hair Salon
The damage at Vanity was particularly disruptive. The hair salon required an emergency visit from a metalworker to replace damaged sections of the metal structure, straighten the shutter and restore its ability to close properly.
At CT Home Luxury, the security shutter was also left damaged and displaced from its guide. The owner was still awaiting a professional assessment to determine the repairs required.
At the time of the initial reports on Sunday, 1 November, the total financial cost of the damage had not yet been established.
The merchants' association also said that one of the affected businesses had not yet filed a police complaint, while it did not know whether the other establishment had formally reported the damage.
Traders Report Disturbances Across the Town Centre
Eivissa Centre said the incidents took place during a night when groups of teenagers were reportedly moving around the town centre.
The association also relayed accounts of young people consuming alcohol in public, including on the Vara de Rey promenade. However, these claims had not been confirmed by police sources.
The damaged shutters were not the only reported incidents. Traders also described eggs being thrown in different streets, with some businesses and vehicles affected.
Separate Police Intervention at a Bazaar on Via Catalunya
The damage to the two businesses on Calle Castilla should be distinguished from a separate incident at a bazaar on Via Catalunya.
At approximately 20:35 on Saturday evening, the Local Police received a report from the bazaar's owner about a group of young people allegedly throwing stones and other objects at the establishment.
When officers arrived, they identified two children under 14 who admitted throwing eggs at the façade. Their parents were contacted and attended the scene. The affected façade was cleaned, and the incident was referred to the Local Police's minors unit for follow-up.
There is no confirmed evidence linking these two children to the damaged shutters at Vanity or CT Home Luxury. The identities of those responsible for the damage on Calle Castilla have not been established.
Eivissa Centre Calls for Greater Police Surveillance
Following the incidents, the Eivissa Centre merchants' association called for greater police surveillance in the town centre and urged the authorities to take preventive action to protect local businesses.
The association said traders were tired of dealing with repeated incidents of vandalism. It also recalled that it had raised concerns in September after a series of graffiti incidents affected several businesses in the area.
The latest damage has renewed calls for measures to improve security and prevent further disruption to shops in Ibiza Town.
