Ibiza Approves New 2027 Waste Collection Fee Based on Property Values, Ranging from €79.82 to €333.80

October 27, 2026

The Ayuntamiento de Eivissa has initially approved a new waste collection fee system for 2027 that will calculate household charges according to the cadastral value of each property. Under the proposed system, annual household fees will range from €79.82 to €333.80, with eight payment bands replacing the existing system based primarily on property size.

The change forms part of the municipality's revised waste fee ordinance, which aims to redistribute the cost of waste collection and disposal while adapting local regulations to Spain's Law 7/2022 on waste and contaminated land for a circular economy.

Eight Property Value Bands to Determine Household Fees

Under the new system, residential properties will be divided into eight bands according to their cadastral value, the official value recorded in Spain's property register.

The annual charge will range from €79.82 for the lowest band to €333.80 for the highest. The exact amount payable will depend on the property's cadastral valuation.

The lowest band covers properties valued at up to €40,000. According to the municipality, 4,285 properties fall into this category, and their annual waste fee will decrease from the current €85 to €79.82, a reduction of approximately 6.1%.

The revised calculation method represents a shift away from the previous system, which relied primarily on property surface area to determine household charges.

Discounts for Pensioners, Residents with Disabilities and Recycling

The new ordinance also provides for social reductions of up to 90% for certain pensioners and people with disabilities, depending on household income.

Residents who document at least 15 annual waste deliveries to municipal fixed or mobile recycling centres will also benefit from an increased reduction. The discount will rise from 5% to 20%, subject to the applicable requirements.

These measures are intended to provide financial relief to eligible households while encouraging greater participation in local waste management and recycling schemes.

Businesses Will Face Activity-Based Waste Charges

Commercial waste fees will be calculated using factors including the nature and size of the business activity and its waste generation characteristics.

The ordinance also provides for a 5% reduction, capped at €300, for qualifying businesses participating in the municipal door-to-door separate collection system for organic waste.

The commercial system therefore uses criteria different from those applied to residential properties, reflecting the range of business activities and their waste management requirements.

When Will the New Waste Fee Apply?

The revised ordinance concerns the 2027 financial year and has received initial approval from the municipal plenary session. It should not be confused with a measure that has already completed every stage of the approval process.

The municipality says the reform is intended to move towards a system that better reflects household circumstances and the volume of waste generated, in line with the principle that those generating more waste should contribute more towards its management.

The final implementation will depend on the ordinance completing the required administrative process.
