Santa Eulària has achieved a standout result in the 2026 Blue Flag awards, becoming the only municipality in both Ibiza and the Balearic Islands with four beaches carrying the prestigious environmental and quality distinction.

The four Blue Flag beaches are Santa Eulària, Es Canar, Es Figueral and Cala Llenya.

The recognition reflects more than the appearance of the beaches. Blue Flag status requires beaches to meet strict criteria covering bathing-water quality, cleanliness, accessibility, environmental management and the standard of services and facilities provided to visitors.

Four Blue Flags for One Ibiza Municipality

Santa Eulària is the only municipality in the Balearic Islands to have four Blue Flag beaches this summer.

The four awarded beaches are:

• Santa Eulària

• Es Canar

• Es Figueral

• Cala Llenya

The achievement places Santa Eulària at the forefront of Ibiza’s Blue Flag results for 2026.

Across the island of Ibiza, seven beaches have received the distinction this year. The remaining three are Cala Benirràs, Cala Sant Vicent and Port de Sant Miquel, all located in the municipality of Sant Joan de Labritja.

What Does a Blue Flag Actually Mean?

The Blue Flag is an international environmental and quality certification awarded to beaches and marinas that meet a demanding set of criteria.

Water quality is one of the most important requirements.

A beach must demonstrate excellent bathing-water results through regular analysis, while the condition and cleanliness of the beach must also meet the programme's standards.

But water and sand are only part of the assessment.

Accessibility, safety, environmental management, information for visitors, waste management and the quality of beach services and facilities are also considered.

The municipality says it applies additional environmental certifications across its wider beach network, which includes 19 natural and urban beaches.

The municipality says it has been working towards maintaining Blue Flag certification for more than 15 years, with the local government and beach-service concessionaires both contributing to the upkeep and standards required.

The certification is therefore not simply an annual accolade, but the result of maintaining a range of services and environmental conditions over time.

For a destination heavily dependent on tourism, Santa Eulària considers the quality of its beaches an important part of its wider appeal.

The wider Balearic Islands have 33 Blue Flag beaches in 2026, with the archipelago also receiving Blue Flag recognition for marinas. Across Spain, the 2026 programme includes 677 awarded beaches.

Within Ibiza, however, Santa Eulària stands apart.

No other municipality on the island, or elsewhere in the Balearics, has four Blue Flag beaches this year.

More Than a Symbol on the Beach

For visitors, a Blue Flag may simply appear as a recognisable blue symbol beside the sea.

Behind it is a much broader set of requirements covering water quality, cleanliness, accessibility, safety, environmental management and visitor services.
