Ibiza Local Police temporarily closed an establishment in the city after an overnight inspection found several irregularities involving emergency exits, safety equipment and noise levels.

The inspection formed part of a wider operation carried out between the night of September 24 and the early hours of September 25, involving Local Police officers, municipal Environment and Activities technicians and Customs agents.

Three establishments were inspected during the operation. The closure measure was applied to one of them after officers identified several deficiencies.

Safety and noise problems identified

At the establishment on Calle Navarra, officers found that the entrance and exit doors were not operating correctly and had deficiencies affecting their panic-bar systems.

The electrical panel also lacked the required signage, while the music levels exceeded those authorised in the establishment's activity documentation.

Inspectors additionally found that some emergency lights in the bathrooms were not working and were not properly signposted.

Temporary closure ordered

Following the inspection, officers filed an activities report and adopted a provisional closure measure.

The establishment must remain closed until the identified deficiencies have been corrected.

The measure is therefore not a permanent closure of the business. It is a provisional action linked to the safety and activity irregularities identified during the inspection.

Three establishments inspected

The overnight operation covered three establishments in Ibiza, located on Calle Navarra, Calle Formentera and the Vara de Rey promenade.

The inspections were designed to check compliance with regulations covering business activity, safety and acoustic pollution, alongside matters falling under Customs' responsibilities.

The findings differed between the three premises.

No irregularities found at drinks retailer

At the commercial establishment on Calle Formentera, which is dedicated to the sale of drinks, inspectors reviewed the documentation and products being sold.

No irregularities were identified by either the municipal technicians or Customs officers during that inspection.

Acoustic inspection on Vara de Rey

The inspection at the establishment on the Vara de Rey promenade focused specifically on noise.

A municipal technician used a sound-level meter from a nearby home to measure the noise generated by the activity.

The initial measurement did not show that the permitted limits had been exceeded. However, the data still needs to be analysed before the final result is established.

Customs officers also found no irregularities at this premises.

Focus on nightlife and commercial activity

The operation was designed to verify that establishments were complying with the rules governing their activities, as well as requirements concerning safety and acoustic pollution.

The involvement of municipal technical staff allowed officers to carry out checks requiring specialist assessment, including noise measurements and examination of activity-related requirements.

Customs agents also participated in the inspections within their area of responsibility.

Part of ongoing preventive controls

Ibiza Town Hall said these operations form part of the Local Police's continuing preventive work, particularly during nighttime hours.

The municipality said the aim is to ensure compliance with regulations, improve the safety of establishments and their users, and protect residents' right to rest.

The Town Hall also highlighted the importance of cooperation between Local Police, municipal technical services and other bodies when carrying out comprehensive inspections.

Investigation and compliance

The establishment subject to the provisional closure will need to correct the deficiencies identified during the inspection before the measure can be lifted.

The other two establishments inspected during the same operation were not subject to the same closure measure.

The latest operation forms part of Ibiza's ongoing inspections of nightlife and commercial premises, with authorities checking safety, activity and noise requirements during the late-night hours.
