Tourist expenditure in Ibiza and Formentera surpassed €1 billion in a single month for the first time in July 2026, reaching an estimated €1.05974 billion as the islands recorded strong growth in spending despite only a small increase in the number of visitors.

The figure represents a 6.43% increase compared with July 2025 and marks a new record for tourist expenditure in the Pitiusas during a single month.

At the same time, Ibiza and Formentera received just over 711,000 tourists in July, an increase of only 0.65% compared with the same month last year.

The figures come from the latest EGATUR and FRONTUR tourism statistics produced by IBESTAT in collaboration with Spain's National Statistics Institute.

€1.059 Billion in July

The estimated €1,059.74 million in tourist expenditure recorded in July represents the first time Ibiza and Formentera have passed the €1 billion mark in a single month.

Compared with July 2025, expenditure increased by 6.43%.

The result is particularly notable because the number of tourists increased by less than 1% over the same period.

The figures therefore show a much stronger increase in total expenditure than in visitor arrivals, although several factors contribute to the overall result.

Around 711,000 Tourists Visited the Pitiusas

Ibiza and Formentera received slightly more than 711,000 tourists during July.

That was 0.65% more than in July 2025.

Domestic tourism increased by approximately 3.4% to around 152,000 visitors, while international arrivals remained broadly stable at just under 556,000, a marginal decrease of around 0.09%.

The United Kingdom remained the largest international source market, with approximately 151,000 visitors, followed by Italy with around 95,600 and the Netherlands with approximately 68,800.

Germany recorded around 42,000 visitors, an increase of 12.1% compared with July 2025.

Average Spending Reached Almost €1,490

Average tourist expenditure in Ibiza and Formentera reached approximately €1,489.75 per visitor during their stay.

That was 5.75% higher than in July 2025.

Daily expenditure stood at approximately €271.36 per tourist.

The daily figure was broadly unchanged compared with the previous year, meaning the increase in overall expenditure cannot simply be described as a sharp rise in how much tourists were spending each day.

Instead, the data also show that visitors were staying longer.

Longer Stays Helped Drive the Increase

Hotel establishments recorded approximately 3.9 million overnight stays in July, an increase of 6.4% compared with July 2025.

Average length of stay rose to around 5.3 days, approximately 6.5% higher than a year earlier.

That means the Pitiusas hosted roughly the same number of tourists as the previous July, but those visitors spent more time on the islands.

The longer stays form an important part of the picture behind the increase in total expenditure.

International Tourists Accounted for Most Spending

International visitors generated approximately €928 million of the July expenditure attributed to Ibiza and Formentera.

That was 6.4% more than in July 2025.

Domestic tourists accounted for approximately €131 million, representing an increase of around 6.5%.

International tourism therefore continued to account for the vast majority of tourist expenditure recorded in the Pitiusas during the month.

Among individual international markets, German tourists recorded particularly high daily expenditure at approximately €293 per person, while British visitors spent around €224 per person per day.

The Pitiusas Led the Balearics in Daily Tourist Spending

The €271.36 average daily expenditure recorded in Ibiza and Formentera was higher than the corresponding figures for the other major Balearic destinations.

Mallorca recorded approximately €236.94 per tourist per day, while Menorca reached around €201.47.

The Pitiusas therefore recorded the highest daily tourist expenditure among the three island groupings in the July figures.

That is a measure of average spending by tourists during their stay and should not be interpreted as a measure of profitability for individual businesses.

Almost a Quarter of Balearic Tourist Spending

Across the entire Balearic Islands, tourist expenditure reached approximately €4.56 billion in July.

The €1.05974 billion attributed to Ibiza and Formentera represented around 23.2% of the Balearic total.

Mallorca accounted for approximately €3.047 billion, while Menorca recorded around €452.9 million.

The distribution underlines the scale of tourism expenditure concentrated in the Pitiusas compared with the overall Balearic tourism economy.

What the €1.059 Billion Figure Actually Measures

The €1.059 billion figure should not be confused with turnover generated directly by Ibiza and Formentera's hotels, restaurants, clubs, shops or other businesses.

EGATUR measures tourist expenditure during trips and includes different categories of spending.

Across the Balearic Islands as a whole, July tourist expenditure included accommodation, transport, food and drinks, activities, shopping and package holidays.

Some expenditure can therefore involve companies or services outside the islands, particularly within package travel and transport, meaning the total should not be treated as a direct measurement of money retained by the local economy.

A Record Does Not Mean €1 Billion in Profit

The record spending figure also says nothing by itself about the profitability of the tourism sector.

Businesses face their own costs for staffing, accommodation, energy, supplies, rent, transport and other operating expenses.

Higher tourist expenditure can therefore occur alongside higher business costs.

The statistics measure the amount tourists spent, rather than how much profit businesses made from that spending.

January to July Reaches €2.585 Billion

The July record formed part of a strong cumulative performance during the first seven months of 2026.

From January through July, tourist expenditure in Ibiza and Formentera reached approximately €2.58507 billion.

That compares with around €2.403 billion during the same period of 2025, representing an increase of approximately 7.57%.

Around 2.1 million tourists visited the Pitiusas during the first seven months of the year.

The cumulative figures therefore show that the increase in tourist expenditure was not limited to July alone.

Spending Has Increased Faster Than Visitor Numbers

The July figures highlight an important distinction between tourism volume and tourism expenditure.

Visitor numbers increased by just 0.65% year on year, while total tourist expenditure increased by 6.43%.

Hotel overnight stays increased by 6.4%, and average length of stay rose by approximately 6.5%.

The data therefore indicate that the number of people arriving was relatively stable while the overall amount of expenditure associated with their trips increased.

However, the statistics alone cannot establish that Ibiza has definitively shifted to a new type of tourism or explain every reason behind the increase.

A Record Month During Peak Season

July is one of the busiest months of the Ibiza tourism calendar, making the €1 billion milestone particularly significant.

The achievement comes during the period when accommodation, restaurants, beach businesses, activities, nightlife and other tourism-related services are operating at their highest seasonal levels.

The figures provide a snapshot of the enormous scale of economic activity associated with tourism during the summer peak.

They also show why tourism expenditure remains one of the most closely watched indicators of the Pitiusan economy.

A Stronger Result Without a Major Increase in Arrivals

The July data present a notable contrast.

The islands welcomed little more than 711,000 tourists, only marginally more than the previous year, but the expenditure associated with those trips rose by more than 6%.

Longer stays and higher overall expenditure per visitor contributed to the difference.

The figures therefore provide a clearer picture of tourism value than visitor numbers alone, while still leaving open questions about how that spending is distributed throughout the local economy.

The Record in Context

Ibiza and Formentera have reached the €1 billion monthly expenditure milestone while continuing to operate within an intensely seasonal tourism model.

The July result also follows a record 2025, when annual tourist expenditure in the Pitiusas reached approximately €4.55 billion.

With €2.585 billion already recorded between January and July 2026, the latest figures show that tourist spending is continuing to grow.

What happens during the remaining summer and autumn months will determine the final annual picture.
