Ibiza will host an open talk next week addressing gestational, perinatal and neonatal bereavement from the perspective of men and fathers.

The session, titled “El duelo desde la mirada masculina: acompañar desde nuestro sitio”, will take place on Tuesday, September 29, from 18:00 to 20:00 at the Casal d’Igualtat in Ibiza.

The event is being organised by Asociación Tribu de Estrellas Ibiza, with the collaboration of the Ajuntament d’Eivissa and the Casal d’Igualtat.

Creating Space for Men Experiencing Bereavement

The talk has been organised around the idea that men can also experience profound grief following a pregnancy or newborn loss, while sometimes feeling pressure to remain strong and support their partner without having space to express their own emotions.

The organisers want to create a dedicated environment where men can talk about their experiences and receive support without their grief being minimised.

The session is primarily aimed at men who want to be heard, but couples, relatives and friends are also welcome to attend.

“Acompanñar Desde Nuestro Sitio”

The title of the session, “El duelo desde la mirada masculina: acompañar desde nuestro sitio”, focuses on the role men can play during a period of family bereavement.

The discussion will look at how fathers and other men affected by a loss can recognise their own emotions while also accompanying their partners and families.

Rather than concentrating exclusively on the experience of the mother, the organisers want to acknowledge the different ways that men can experience and process the loss of a pregnancy or baby.

Support Networks

One of the main themes will be the importance of support networks.

The session will examine ways of finding support while also supporting other people who are experiencing the same loss.

It will also address the importance of having people and spaces where difficult emotions can be expressed without judgement.

Learning How to Accompany Others

The talk is also open to people who have not personally experienced a pregnancy or neonatal loss but want to understand how to support someone who has.

Partners, relatives and friends can attend to learn more about how to accompany someone through grief without unintentionally invalidating their emotions.

The organisers say the focus will include practical approaches to offering support and creating environments of emotional containment in everyday life.

Psychologist Adrián S. Herguedas

The session will be led by psychologist Adrián S. Herguedas.

He will guide the discussion around the male experience of gestational, perinatal and neonatal bereavement, including ways of understanding emotions, seeking support and accompanying others.

The event is designed as an open space for discussion rather than a clinical treatment session.

Part of Tribu de Estrellas' Work in Ibiza

Tribu de Estrellas Ibiza is an association created around families who have experienced the death of a child during pregnancy, birth or shortly after birth.

The group has previously organised support meetings at the Casal d’Igualtat, giving affected families an opportunity to share experiences and feelings.

The association has also organised activities designed to raise awareness of gestational, perinatal and neonatal bereavement.

Continuing a Programme of Support

The September 29 event forms part of the wider work being carried out by Tribu de Estrellas in Ibiza.

Earlier this year, the association organised a talk on the role of family and the wider social environment in accompanying people through bereavement.

The organisation has also held mutual-support meetings and a workshop focused on making “arrullos”, small blankets traditionally used to wrap a deceased baby, as a way of preserving memories.

Casal d’Igualtat Provides the Venue

The event will take place at the Casal d’Igualtat in Ibiza, which has previously hosted activities organised by Tribu de Estrellas.

The Ajuntament d’Eivissa has made the space available for the September session, providing a public venue for the discussion.

The council has also previously supported the association's mutual-support meetings for families affected by pregnancy and neonatal loss.

Attendance at the September 29 talk is free.
