Spanish Army Patrols to Cover Ibiza and Formentera from October 13 to 16

10 de October de 2026

A platoon from the Spanish Army’s Palma 47 Regiment will carry out military patrols across Ibiza and Formentera from Tuesday, October 13, to Friday, October 16, 2026, as part of the Armed Forces’ ongoing presence, surveillance and deterrence operations.

The deployment will involve route reconnaissance in several areas of Ibiza, covering the municipalities of Eivissa, Santa Eulària des Riu and Sant Joan de Labritja. The military personnel will also travel across Formentera during the four-day operation.

According to information attributed to Spain’s Defence Staff, the platoon will use facilities at Sa Coma as its base. The Consell d’Eivissa has made the facilities available for the deployment.

What Will the Military Patrols Involve?

During the operation, soldiers will conduct reconnaissance along selected routes and maintain contact with municipal authorities in the areas they visit. These meetings will provide an opportunity to explain the activities being carried out and the purpose of the deployment.

The mission forms part of the Armed Forces’ Permanent Presence, Surveillance and Deterrence Operations, known by the Spanish abbreviation OPVD. These operations are directed by the Operations Command and take place across Spanish national territory.

According to the Defence Staff, the missions are intended to maintain surveillance of national territory, improve the early detection of potential threats and support a response to possible crisis situations.

A Routine Military Presence Operation

The Defence Staff distinguishes these deployments from military exercises and training manoeuvres. They are operational activities intended to maintain a regular military presence and improve knowledge of the areas concerned.

The land operations fall under the Land Operational Command, which is responsible for planning, conducting and monitoring these missions under the operational control of the Operations Command.

The October deployment in Ibiza and Formentera forms part of the wider programme of military presence and surveillance operations carried out across Spain.

The announced schedule runs from October 13 to 16, although no specific daily patrol times or detailed public routes have been provided in the reports available.
