Friday, October 9 brings a strong mix of local traditions, community celebrations and contemporary art to Ibiza and Formentera. From the opening of a sculpture exhibition in Es Cubells to the festive proclamation in Cala de Bou and an evening of art in Sant Francesc, these events offer a glimpse of island life beyond the main tourist season.

Festes de Santa Teresa and Imaginari 2.0 in Es Cubells on Friday, October 9

The Festes de Santa Teresa begin their 2026 programme in Es Cubells with the opening of Imaginari 2.0, a sculpture exhibition by Ibiza artist Jaume Marí.

The exhibition brings Marí’s sculptural work into the village’s cultural programme, with the opening presented by Toni Manonelles and contributions from Joana Tur and Isidor Marí. The inauguration takes place at 19:30 in the Saló Joan XXIII.

The evening also includes a screening of Vedraners, a documentary produced by the Associació de Vesins des Cubells as part of the Units pel nostre parlar 2026 project, which celebrates and promotes the local language.

The festivities continue throughout October and into November, combining exhibitions, traditional celebrations, sport and activities for families. The main day honouring Santa Teresa falls on October 15, when the village will celebrate with mass, a procession and traditional Ball Pagès.

Festes de Cala de Bou and Port des Torrent in Cala de Bou on Friday, October 9

The Festes de Cala de Bou and Port des Torrent continue with their official festive proclamation on Friday evening, followed by traditional dance and live flamenco-inspired music.

The proclamation will be delivered by the Asociación de Mujeres de Cala de Bou. After the opening address, the Grup Folklòric Sant Jordi de ses Salines will perform Ball Pagès, bringing Ibiza’s traditional dance and music into the celebrations.

The evening continues with A Mi Aire, a duo featuring Juan Bastida on vocals and keyboards and Pedro Cortés on guitar. Their repertoire combines flamenco with rumba, sevillanas and pasodobles, offering a lively local performance.

The event runs from 20:00 to 21:30 in a marquee beside the children's playground at the junction of Carrer des Caló and Carrer de Cuenca.

Festes de Sant Rafel in Sant Rafel on Friday, October 9

The Festes Patronals de Sant Rafel officially begin their 2026 programme on Friday with the traditional festive proclamation, bringing residents together for an evening of community celebrations.

This year’s proclamation will be delivered by historian Paquita Riera, known as being from Can Pep Jaumet. The ceremony will be followed by the presentation of the Premi Força de Fang 2026, a local recognition associated with the village festivities.

The evening continues at 21:00 with a communal dinner at Bar Es Cruce. A municipal tennis tournament also begins on October 9, running through November 7 at the Sant Rafel municipal sports courts.

The wider programme continues throughout October and into early November, featuring traditional gatherings, family activities, music, sport, an artisan and rural fair and the long-running Festival Folklòric de Sant Rafel.

Festes del Pilar and Children's Book Presentation in El Pilar de la Mola on Friday, October 9

The Festes del Pilar programme in Formentera includes a literary event for younger readers on Friday afternoon, ahead of the main celebrations scheduled for October 10 to 12.

The Casa del Poble in El Pilar de la Mola hosts a presentation of the children's book ¿Dónde se esconde la felicidad?, with author Carla Pérez. The presentation offers a family-friendly cultural activity as the village prepares for the main festivities, which will include traditional food, artisan activities, music and entertainment.

The book presentation is scheduled for 18:00. The wider Festes del Pilar programme continues through October, with events organised by the La Mola Festival Committee and the La Mola Residents' Association.

Formentera’s Tardor d’Art brings contemporary art, independent artists and cultural activities to Sant Francesc throughout the second week of October.

The fifth edition brings together exhibitions and activities across three cultural spaces: the Sala d’Exposicions Ajuntament Vell, the Centre Antoni Tur “Gabrielet” and the Jardí de ses Eres. Curated by Joan Abelló, Pamela Spitz and Tanja Grass, the programme features artists working across contemporary and experimental forms, including Jordi Prat Pons, Suzanne Frings, Krishna Goineau, Gilbert Herreyns and Javier Mariscal.

The event combines exhibitions with workshops, presentations, public-space installations and other opportunities to encounter contemporary art. Friday, October 9 falls within the exhibition period, although no separate workshop or performance is listed for that date.
