Ibiza’s Most Unusual Cooking Show? Grandmother and Granddaughter Make a Recipe on a Paddleboard

What happens when you combine an Ibiza paddleboard, a homemade recipe, a glass of vermouth and a grandmother who refuses to sacrifice her perfect hairstyle?

You get one very entertaining day at sea.

Malaga-based content creator Carla Martín, known for opening her videos with her signature “¿Cómo están los cuerpos?”, has taken her latest Ibiza adventure to another level — bringing her grandmother Estrella onto a paddleboard to prepare a savoury Spanish brazo de gitano right in the middle of the sea.

And, naturally, things don't go entirely according to plan.

Cooking in the Middle of the Sea

The challenge sounds simple enough: prepare a savoury brazo de gitano while floating on a paddleboard.

The reality is considerably more complicated.

Carla and Estrella set themselves up on the board with the ingredients they need, although they wisely prepared the filling at home beforehand. The mixture includes egg, olives, cooked ham and smoked sardines, which they combine with potatoes to create the dish.

Before getting started, however, Carla decides there is an important first step.

“I think we need a vermouth,” she suggests.

Her grandmother is not exactly opposed to the idea.

The pair then get to work while trying to balance themselves, their ingredients and their kitchen utensils on a board moving with the Ibiza waves.

Meet Estrella

Although Carla is behind the camera and leading the challenge, her grandmother Estrella quickly becomes one of the stars of the video.

She joins in with the jokes, gives her granddaughter instructions and appears perfectly happy to embrace the unusual cooking adventure.

There is, however, one thing Estrella is determined to protect: her hair.

Carla jokes that her grandmother has arrived with her “hairdresser hair”, while Estrella makes it clear that she does not particularly want to get wet because she wants to stay looking “beautiful”.

Considering what happens next, that may have been a wise concern.

Then the Waves Arrive

The cooking is going surprisingly well until the sea decides to join the recipe.

As several waves hit the paddleboard, Carla and Estrella suddenly have a much more urgent task: keeping everything from falling into the water.

“¡La ola, la ola, la ola!” they shout as they try to save the glasses, ingredients and cooking equipment.

But one item becomes the absolute priority.

“¡El brazo de gitano! ¡Salvarlo, salvarlo, salvarlo!”

The dish becomes the centre of a miniature rescue operation as the pair desperately try to keep it on the board.

And then comes another important reminder:

“¡La abuela, la abuela, la abuela!”

The recipe may be important, but Estrella comes first.

The Recipe Survives

Despite the waves, the ingredients and the general chaos, the brazo de gitano survives.

The pair manage to finish assembling the dish and cover it with mayonnaise before finally getting to taste what they have created.

Carla's verdict?

“Está tremendo.”

In other words, all that effort out at sea appears to have been worth it.

Ibiza Is Once Again the Backdrop

This isn't Carla Martín's first unusual paddleboard adventure in Ibiza.

Her previous videos filmed on the island have included everything from preparing food with a stranger to enjoying skincare, wine and sunset views from the water, while another adventure involved an unexpected encounter with jellyfish.

This time, however, she had her grandmother Estrella alongside her — and the combination proved particularly entertaining.

The video captures a very different side of Ibiza: not the clubs or luxury yachts, but a sunny day on the water filled with family, food, humour and a little bit of chaos.

And apparently, this may not be the final adventure.

After surviving the paddleboard, the pair joke that next year they could take things up another level and do it on a boat.

For now, though, the brazo de gitano has officially survived its Ibiza sea adventure.
