Ibiza Airport is preparing for one of the busiest travel periods of the end of August, with 1,664 scheduled take-offs and landings between Friday, August 28 and Monday, August 31 as the summer return operation gets underway.
The four-day period is part of the wider “operación retorno”, when large numbers of holidaymakers begin leaving the Balearic Islands at the end of August.
More Than 6,400 Flights Across the Balearics
Across the three Balearic airports — Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca — Aena has scheduled 6,443 flights during the four-day period.
That is just 25 fewer operations than the equivalent period in 2025, representing a slight decrease of 0.38%.
Ibiza accounts for more than a quarter of all scheduled operations across the archipelago.
Ibiza: 1,664 Flights
Ibiza Airport is scheduled to handle:
- 1,664 flights from August 28–31
- 2.3% fewer operations than the same four days in 2025
- 1,703 operations were recorded during the equivalent period last year
Despite the slight year-on-year decline, the figures underline the scale of traffic moving through Ibiza at the end of the peak summer season.
Saturday Expected to Be the Busiest Day
Across the Balearic Islands, Saturday, August 29 is expected to be the busiest day of the four-day operation, with 1,708 scheduled flights.
That represents a 1.6% decrease compared with the equivalent Saturday in 2025.
Mallorca accounts for the largest share of the Balearic traffic, with 4,053 scheduled operations, while Menorca has 726, an increase of 1.9% year-on-year.
Almost 30,000 Flights Across Spain
The end-of-August travel rush extends far beyond the islands.
Aena's network has scheduled 29,592 arrivals and departures across Spain between August 28 and 31, representing a 2.6% increase compared with the same return period in 2025.
Sunday, August 30, is expected to be the busiest day nationally, with 7,492 scheduled operations.
Madrid-Barajas is scheduled for 4,972 operations over the four days, while Barcelona-El Prat has 4,421. Other major tourist airports are also seeing increased activity, including Alicante-Elche and Málaga-Costa del Sol.
Ibiza's End-of-Summer Travel Rush
The figures highlight just how busy Ibiza's airport remains as August draws to a close.
Although Ibiza's scheduled traffic during these four days is slightly below last year's level, the island continues to handle more than 1,600 aircraft movements in just four days, reflecting the enormous volume of visitors travelling to and from the island during the peak summer period.
For travellers flying out of Ibiza over the final weekend of August, the figures are also a reminder that airport traffic is expected to remain particularly busy through Monday, August 31.
