Ibiza is celebrating another international sporting success after kickboxer Jordi Marí Llobet returned from the World Cup in Budapest with a bronze medal.

The athlete from Club Budoka reached the podium in the Light Contact -74 kg category at the prestigious WAKO World Cup in the Hungarian capital, adding another international medal to his growing record.

Marí currently sits sixth in the world ranking in his category and entered the Budapest competition facing a particularly demanding draw featuring several of the sport's top international competitors.

A Strong Start in Budapest

Marí began his campaign in the round of 16 against a competitor representing Germany.

He controlled the bout effectively and secured a convincing victory to move into the quarter-finals.

There, he faced a fighter from the Czech Republic and again produced a tactically disciplined performance, earning his place in the semi-finals.

Reaching the final four also guaranteed Marí a medal.

A Controversial Semi-Final

The semi-final proved to be his toughest challenge.

Marí faced the representative of Great Britain in a closely fought contest that ultimately went to the judges.

The decision went in favour of the British fighter, ending Marí's hopes of reaching the gold-medal final.

According to his Ibiza delegation, however, the decision generated some controversy, with the team questioning whether several of the British fighter's scoring actions had made clear contact.

Despite missing out on the final, Marí secured bronze and another major international podium finish.

Another Podium for Ibiza

The result continues an impressive run for the Ibizan fighter and reinforces his position among the leading competitors in his discipline.

For Club Budoka and Ibiza's kickboxing community, the medal represents another achievement on the international stage.

Competing against athletes from across the world, Marí has once again managed to bring a major championship medal back to the island.

No Time to Rest

Marí will not have much time to celebrate.

His next major competition is already approaching.

On September 12, the Ibiza athlete will travel to Albania to compete in the European University Games, where he will represent the Universitat Politècnica de València.

After securing bronze in Budapest, Marí now has another opportunity to compete internationally and add to his medal collection.

For Ibiza, his latest result is another reminder that the island's sporting talent extends far beyond its famous football and water sports scenes.
