New York and Ibiza to Get First-Ever Direct United Airlines Connection in 2027

Ibiza is set to gain its first-ever nonstop connection with the United States, with United Airlines announcing a new seasonal route between New York/Newark and Ibiza beginning in 2027.

The new service is part of United’s largest international expansion in the airline’s history, which will add 10 new international destinations across Europe and Asia.

Direct New York–Ibiza Flights

United plans to launch the Newark Liberty International Airport–Ibiza route on May 31, 2027, providing a direct connection between the New York metropolitan area and the Balearic island.

The service is scheduled to operate four times a week during the summer season. The flights will be operated using United’s Airbus A321XLR, a long-range narrow-body aircraft designed for transatlantic routes.

For Ibiza, this represents a significant development in international connectivity. The island has long attracted American visitors, but travellers from the United States have traditionally needed to connect through another European airport to reach Ibiza.

Valencia Also Gets a New York Connection

The expansion is not limited to Ibiza.

United will also launch a nonstop Newark–Valencia service, with flights scheduled to begin in June 2027. The Valencia route is planned to operate three times a week.

The two Spanish destinations are among 10 new international cities being added to United’s network for 2027.

The airline's new destinations include:

  • Ibiza, Spain
  • Valencia, Spain
  • Toulouse, France
  • Marseille, France
  • Luxembourg
  • Ljubljana, Slovenia
  • Terceira, Portugal
  • Olbia, Italy
  • Catania, Italy
  • Okinawa, Japan

A Major Expansion for Ibiza

United has described the 2027 programme as the largest international expansion in its history, with the new destinations adding more than 700,000 seats to its international network.

Ibiza is particularly notable because it will be among the new destinations where no other US airline currently operates a nonstop service, according to United's announcement.

The airline's strategy is also focused on destinations where there is strong demand for leisure travel, making Ibiza a natural addition to the network.

The A321XLR Comes to Ibiza

The new Ibiza service will also introduce United's Airbus A321XLR on the route.

The aircraft has a longer range than conventional narrow-body aircraft, allowing airlines to operate transatlantic services on routes where larger wide-body aircraft may not be commercially practical. United plans to use the aircraft on several of its new European routes in 2027.

For passengers, the aircraft will feature United's premium cabins alongside its standard economy offering.

What It Could Mean for Ibiza Tourism

The new direct connection could make Ibiza considerably easier to reach for travellers from New York and the wider US Northeast, removing the need for a European connection.

It also strengthens Ibiza's position as an international leisure destination and could help broaden the island's visitor base beyond its traditional European markets.

For American travellers, the appeal is straightforward: one direct flight from the New York area to Ibiza, with no connection required.

The new route is scheduled to begin in May 2027, ahead of the main summer season.
