A man has been arrested in Ibiza after allegedly fleeing from National Police officers in the Figueretes area, only to be caught carrying a selection of illegal drugs, including around 50 MDMA tablets, heroin, cannabis and cocaine.
The arrest took place at around 8:30pm on Monday, August 24, during a police patrol focused on preventing drug trafficking in the city.
He Tried to Escape on Foot
According to police, officers from the Grupo Operativo de Respuesta (GOR) noticed the man in Figueretes.
When he realised he had attracted the attention of the officers, he allegedly became nervous and evasive before suddenly running away.
The man reportedly attempted to hide inside a building and even tried to gain access to a portal using a card.
Officers managed to intercept him before he could get away.
Several Types of Drugs Found
During the subsequent search, police allegedly discovered:
- Around 50 MDMA tablets
- More than 10 doses of heroin
- More than 10 grams of cannabis
- Around 10 grams of cocaine base
The combination of several different substances led police to accuse the man of a crime against public health.
The authorities have not publicly identified the man or indicated that the seized drugs were connected to a larger organised trafficking network.
Arrest Comes During Intensified Summer Drug Operations
The arrest comes amid heightened police activity against street-level drug dealing in Ibiza during the 2026 summer season.
The National Police have been increasing surveillance in areas where officers say drug distribution is a particular concern, while the Guardia Civil and local police forces have also been carrying out separate operations across the island.
Just days earlier, the Guardia Civil announced that it had already made 140 arrests for drug-trafficking and public-health offences in Ibiza since the beginning of June. Those operations have particularly targeted retail-level dealing.
A Busy Summer for Drug Enforcement
The wider summer operation has involved several different police forces, including the Guardia Civil, municipal police and the GRS (Grupo de Reserva y Seguridad).
Recent cases have included arrests involving substances such as 2C-B, ketamine and nitrous oxide, while authorities have also tracked down fugitives allegedly linked to a previous investigation involving a major cocaine seizure.
The latest Figueretes arrest is therefore part of a broader effort to target the distribution of drugs on the island during the peak tourist season.
Sent to Judicial Authorities
Following his arrest, the man was placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority, where the relevant proceedings will determine the next steps in the case.
As the investigation and judicial process continue, the allegations against the suspect should be distinguished from a final conviction.
For Ibiza, the case is another reminder that alongside the island's internationally famous nightlife, police continue to intensify efforts against the illegal sale and distribution of drugs during the summer months.
