Ibiza has gained a striking new piece of public-facing contemporary art, with international urban artist Alec Monopoly unveiling a monumental sculpture depicting the iconic Monopoly Man behind a DJ booth at IBIZA Gallery in Playa d’en Bossa.

The new work was presented on Monday, August 24, with Monopoly completing the final details himself in a live graffiti performance. The sculpture combines two worlds closely associated with the artist: street art and music.

A Monumental Tribute to Ibiza’s DJ Culture

The large-scale sculpture shows Monopoly's instantly recognisable character standing behind a DJ console, turning the familiar Monopoly Man into a symbol of Ibiza's electronic music culture.

The concept is a direct nod to the island's international reputation as one of the world's most important destinations for club music and DJs.

The piece has a chrome finish and was created over approximately a year. Forbes España reports that the sculpture weighs around 450 kilograms and is valued at approximately $500,000.

Rather than simply unveiling the finished work, Monopoly made the creation itself part of the event, adding graffiti and finishing touches to the sculpture in front of guests.

Alec Monopoly and Ibiza Go Back Years

Although Monopoly is internationally recognised for his pop-art reinterpretations of the Monopoly Man, his relationship with Ibiza extends well beyond this new sculpture.

The artist has been involved with the island's electronic music scene for years, creating murals and artwork and performing as a DJ at major venues including Ushuaïa Ibiza and Hï Ibiza.

That makes the DJ-booth sculpture particularly fitting.

It doesn't simply represent Ibiza's nightlife — it also reflects Monopoly's own connection to the island and his career across both art and music.

“Art is music and music is art,” Monopoly has said in relation to the connection between his two creative worlds.

From Graffiti to the DJ Booth

Born in New York, Alec Monopoly has developed a recognisable visual language based around graffiti, pop art, luxury, money and celebrity culture.

His masked public persona and reinterpretation of the Monopoly Man have become central to his work, allowing him to explore ideas surrounding wealth, fame and excess through imagery that is instantly recognisable.

The new Ibiza sculpture takes that familiar character into a completely different setting.

Instead of simply holding money or appearing alongside luxury symbols, the Monopoly Man is now positioned behind a DJ booth, placing music and nightlife at the centre of the work.

The Artwork Was Created Live in Ibiza

Guests at IBIZA Gallery were able to watch Monopoly work directly on the sculpture during the presentation.

He used spray paint and markers to add the final urban-art details, transforming the unveiling into something closer to a live performance than a traditional gallery presentation.

The event reportedly brought together around 100 art lovers, collectors, DJs, artists and figures from Ibiza's creative scene.

The sculpture is currently expected to remain at IBIZA Gallery.

The Party Continued at StreetXO

After the sculpture presentation, the event continued with a private after-party at the terrace of StreetXO, part of the wider Ibiza Gallery and The Site Ibiza concept.

Monopoly switched from artist to DJ for the evening, taking control of the decks for an exclusive DJ set.

He also continued creating art during the party and signed and personalised pieces from his MoneyMon series.

The evening attracted several recognisable names from the international music and entertainment scene, including Dimitri Vegas and singer Sasha.

Ibiza Gallery Blends Art, Fashion, Music and Food

The sculpture forms part of the growing programme at IBIZA Gallery, which sits within The Site Ibiza in Playa d’en Bossa.

The concept brings together fashion, contemporary art, gastronomy, hospitality and entertainment, reflecting Ibiza's increasingly broad luxury and lifestyle offering.

The arrival of Monopoly's sculpture adds another artistic dimension to the project, while its DJ theme connects directly with one of the island's most internationally recognised cultural exports.

And perhaps fittingly for Ibiza, the new artwork brings together money, art, nightlife and celebrity culture in one enormous chrome character standing behind a DJ booth.
