Nearly 28kg of Ketamine and More Than 7kg of Cocaine Seized in Ibiza

The National Police have seized 27.75 kilograms of ketamine and 7.2 kilograms of cocaine in Ibiza as part of an investigation into suspected drug trafficking during the summer season.

A man of German nationality has been arrested and is being investigated for an alleged offence of drug trafficking. The operation also resulted in the seizure of 42 grams of hashish, €22,000 in cash and several mobile phones.

Investigation During the Summer Season

The investigation was carried out by officers from the UDYCO (Drug and Organised Crime Unit) of the Ibiza Local Judicial Police Brigade as part of the National Police's Operación Verano.

According to police, investigators identified a man in Ibiza who had allegedly travelled to the island to carry out activities linked to drug trafficking during the summer.

The investigation then led officers to a vehicle that had been permanently parked in the garage of a residential development.

Police suspected that the vehicle was being used to store drugs that were allegedly intended for distribution.

Drugs Hidden Inside a Vehicle

On 24 August, police moved into the operational phase of the investigation.

The suspect was arrested, his home was searched and two vehicles were seized.

During the search of the vehicle parked in the residential garage, officers discovered what police described as a sophisticated electronically operated system designed to hide and store drugs.

These concealed compartments are known in police terminology as “caletas.”

The discovery was followed by the seizure of the large quantities of drugs.

In total, police recovered:

  • 27.75kg of ketamine

  • 7.2kg of cocaine

  • 42g of hashish

  • €22,000 in cash

  • Several mobile phones

Police Say a Distribution Point Was Dismantled

According to the National Police, the operation dismantled what they described as an important storage and distribution point for drugs on the island.

The investigation was focused on suspected trafficking activity, with the authorities alleging that the drugs were being stored for subsequent distribution.

The arrested man was brought before the judicial authorities, who ordered provisional detention.

Part of Ibiza’s Summer Enforcement

The investigation forms part of Operación Verano, a seasonal operation carried out by the National Police in Ibiza.

The operation focuses on criminal activity during the busy summer period, when the island experiences a major increase in its population and nightlife activity.

The latest seizure is notable for the quantity of ketamine and cocaine involved, particularly the nearly 28 kilograms of ketamine recovered from the hidden compartment.

A Significant Seizure

The case highlights the work of Ibiza's specialist drug enforcement units during the summer season.

While the investigation concerns an individual suspected of trafficking, the seizure also prevented a substantial quantity of drugs from potentially reaching the island's distribution network, according to police.

The investigation has now moved into the judicial phase, with the suspect in provisional custody while proceedings continue.
