Storm Adam Traps Around 25 Cars in Es Canar Car Park as Recovery Teams Use a Crane

October 20, 2026

Around 25 vehicles were left trapped in a flooded car park in es Canar, Santa Eulària, after intense rainfall associated with Storm Adam caused water and mud to accumulate across the parking area on Monday, 19 October.

Some cars were partially submerged, with the water reaching as high as their bonnets. Recovery teams from Grúas y Rescates Contreras were called in to remove the affected vehicles, working carefully as the accumulated water made the operation particularly difficult.

The incident was one of several consequences of the severe weather that affected Ibiza and Formentera over the weekend and into Monday.

Vehicles Removed One by One from Flooded Car Park

Footage from the scene showed recovery workers using a crane to lift and remove vehicles from the flooded parking area.

The operation had to proceed gradually because the large volume of standing water made manoeuvring difficult. According to the recovery professionals, visibility was extremely limited under these conditions, requiring additional caution while handling the vehicles.

The town hall confirmed that around 25 vehicles had been affected. Other reports described the cars as partially submerged in water and mud, leaving some owners unable to access or move their vehicles themselves.

The available reports do not establish the total financial value of the damage or confirm that every vehicle had been recovered by the time the footage was published.

Es Canar Among the Areas Hit by Heavy Rainfall

Es Canar was one of several locations in Santa Eulària affected by Storm Adam. The municipality recorded 77 litres of rain per square metre during the six hours before midday on Monday, according to the town hall.

The heavy rainfall caused flooding in parking areas and along the seafront, while other parts of the municipality experienced waterlogged roads, flooded properties and fallen trees.

The town hall also reported flooding in homes in the Font des Murtar area and elsewhere in the municipality, along with damage to some hospitality businesses.

Five roads were temporarily closed during the morning because of the weather, although the municipality reported that these had reopened at around 12:30.

Storm Adam Causes Widespread Disruption Across Ibiza

The flooded car park was part of a broader episode of severe weather across Ibiza and Formentera, where persistent rainfall caused torrents to overflow, roads to close and water to enter commercial premises, garages and ground-floor properties.

Emergency crews and recovery professionals worked across the islands to respond to incidents and begin clearing affected areas.

The situation in es Canar highlights the risks posed to parked vehicles when intense rainfall overwhelms drainage and water accumulates rapidly in low-lying areas.

Residents and visitors were urged to avoid unnecessary journeys, stay away from flooded roads and follow instructions from emergency services as authorities continued to assess the storm's impact.
