The Fundación Abel Matutes spent €1,564,179.11 on social, educational, employment, environmental and other community programmes during 2025, almost 50% more than the previous year.

The figures form part of the Foundation's first annual report to be presented institutionally, unveiled in Ibiza in September 2026. During 2025, the Foundation, working alongside Palladium Cares, reported more than 250 initiatives across six countries that reached more than 9,800 beneficiaries.

Ibiza and Formentera remained an important part of the programme, accounting for 72 actions during the year.

Spending Increased by Almost 50%

The Foundation reported expenditure of €1,564,179.11 in 2025, compared with €1,046,373.35 in 2024.

The increase was €517,805.76, equivalent to approximately 49.5%.

The largest allocation was €690,167.54 for social and educational programmes.

Employment training received €340,265.78, while social-impact initiatives accounted for €282,264.25.

A further €177,543.99 was allocated to the promotion of Ibiza and Formentera, with €73,937.55 directed towards environmental projects.

It is important to note that these figures represent the Foundation's reported expenditure for the year rather than an investment in a single project.

72 Actions in Ibiza and Formentera

The Pitiusas continued to have a significant role in the Foundation's activity despite its expanding international reach.

Of the 72 actions carried out in Ibiza and Formentera during 2025, 40 were related to social and childhood programmes, 23 focused on sport and 9 were dedicated to culture.

The Foundation's work in the islands included social inclusion, support for grassroots sport, cultural initiatives, education and employment training.

Among the local projects highlighted in the 2025 review were support for Cáritas Ibiza's Casa de Betania following its collapse and continued backing for the Club Náutico Ibiza's Un Mar de Posibilidades programme.

30 People Trained in Ibiza, 25 Now Working

One of the most notable developments in Ibiza was the introduction of a professional training centre developed with Cáritas Diocesana de Ibiza and the Escuela de Hostelería.

During the first edition, 30 people were trained in two areas of hospitality: kitchen assistance and hotel housekeeping.

According to the Foundation, 25 of those participants are currently working. That represents approximately 83% of the first group.

The programme is aimed at people experiencing difficulties accessing training and employment. The stated objective is not simply to recruit for Palladium Hotel Group, but to provide participants with skills that can be used across the wider labour market or, where possible, in future self-employment.

More Than 1,500 People Received Professional Training

Employment and education are major parts of the Foundation's international activity.

During 2025, more than 1,500 people received training through the Foundation's professional training centres.

The wider network included centres and programmes in several countries, while Ibiza joined the training network during 2025 through the partnership with Cáritas and the Escuela de Hostelería.

Professionals from Palladium Hotel Group also participated as trainers, bringing practical experience from the hospitality industry into the programmes.

Education Continues in Ibiza

Education remains one of the Foundation's established areas of work.

The organisation has maintained three annual scholarships linked to the Universitat de les Illes Balears since 2019 and continues to collaborate with the Escuela de Hostelería.

The Foundation's stated objectives include improving access to education and training, particularly for people who face barriers to employment and professional development.

Environmental Spending Rose by Almost 199%

Environmental activity recorded one of the sharpest increases during 2025.

The Foundation reported that expenditure in the environmental area increased by 198.91% compared with the previous year.

The work covered environmental education, biodiversity protection, marine conservation, food-waste reduction and circular-economy initiatives.

One of the projects highlighted during the 2025 review was OREKA, which enabled 2,613 meals to be donated.

Biodiversity projects included work relating to Ibiza's endemic wall lizard as well as sea-turtle conservation programmes in destinations including Mexico, Brazil and Jamaica.

A New Marine Conservation Hub in Ibiza

The Foundation also presented the Palladium BlueLife Hub at Grand Palladium Select Palace Ibiza in Playa d'en Bossa.

The facility was inaugurated in July 2026 and is designed to bring part of the marine conservation work carried out at sea into an educational setting on land.

The Hub features Posidonia oceanica fragments undergoing a conservation process before being transferred to restoration areas, along with rescued gorgonians and educational material about Mediterranean marine ecosystems.

The project combines conservation, public education and training for professionals within the tourism sector. Visitors and hotel guests can also take part in experiences designed to explain the work being carried out to protect and restore marine habitats.

19 Seahorses Monitored in Ibiza

The marine programme has also been monitoring seahorses in Ibiza.

According to information presented during the BlueLife Hub visit, 19 seahorses were monitored in Ibiza during the previous year.

The Foundation's marine conservation partners say monitoring species associated with Posidonia meadows helps improve understanding of the biodiversity supported by these important marine ecosystems.

The figure of 19 refers to monitored specimens, not an estimate of the total seahorse population around the island.

More Than 250 Initiatives Across Six Countries

The Foundation's activities expanded considerably beyond Ibiza during 2025.

More than 250 initiatives were carried out across six countries: Spain, Italy, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Brazil.

The programmes addressed social needs, education, professional training, environmental protection and emergency assistance.

More than 9,800 beneficiaries were reached, while around 1,200 Palladium Hotel Group employees took part as volunteers.

4 Causes 4 Quarters Expands

The Foundation's international 4 Causes 4 Quarters programme also grew during the year.

The initiative works around four areas: protecting the planet, supporting older people, promoting equality and supporting children.

During 2025, the programme involved 53 organisations and generated more than 3,000 hours of volunteering.

The initiative has now expanded across Palladium Hotel Group's operations in Europe and the Americas.

Emergency Support in Jamaica

The Foundation's international work also included emergency assistance following Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica.

More than $50,000 in emergency support was mobilised for around 1,300 affected employees and for housing reconstruction, according to the Foundation's reported figures.

The response forms part of the organisation's broader approach to supporting communities and employees in destinations where the group operates.

Supporting Culture and Sport in the Pitiusas

The Foundation continued its longstanding support for sport and culture in Ibiza and Formentera during 2025.

Its local sporting activity included backing grassroots football, while cultural support extended to projects involving island identity and cultural participation.

Programmes such as Eivissàpiens, Ibiza Cine Fest and Fantasía Ibiza Festival were among the cultural initiatives associated with its activity in the Pitiusas.

The Foundation's own Ibiza and Formentera programme identifies the promotion of culture, sport, scientific and sociological research and the protection of the islands' environmental, artistic, cultural and historical heritage among its objectives.

Supporting Un Mar de Posibilidades

The Foundation also continued its longstanding relationship with the Club Náutico Ibiza and its Un Mar de Posibilidades programme.

The initiative focuses on social inclusion through activities connected with sailing and the sea.

The Foundation has supported the project for more than a decade, making it one of its longest-running local partnerships in Ibiza.

A Foundation Founded in Ibiza

The roots of the Fundación Abel Matutes go back to 1978.

The Foundation's official history states that Abel Matutes Juan, after being elected Senator, decided to donate his entire salary to support children's sports teams, student groups and social activities in Ibiza and Formentera.

Although its work has expanded substantially since then, the Foundation continues to identify Ibiza and Formentera as a central part of its mission.

In 2024, the Foundation broadened its scope to operate nationally and internationally in the destinations where the associated business group has a presence, while its wider social-responsibility activities were brought together under the Palladium Cares identity.

Transparency Becomes a Bigger Focus

The 2025 report is significant not only for the figures it contains but also because it represents the Foundation's first annual report to be presented institutionally.

The organisation says the report is intended to provide greater transparency about the resources it uses and the projects supported through its social and environmental activity.

The Foundation's current website also states that transparency, accountability and independent auditing are central to its management approach, with annual reports and financial information made available to the public.

Ibiza Remains at the Centre

The international expansion has not replaced the Foundation's focus on its home islands.

The 72 actions carried out across Ibiza and Formentera during 2025 covered social and childhood programmes, sport and culture, while employment training and environmental initiatives added new areas of activity.

The combination of local partnerships and international programmes reflects the Foundation's expanded remit while retaining its long-standing connection to Ibiza and Formentera.
