Manumission Returns to Ibiza With a 12-Hour Recreation of the Legendary Summer of 1998

One of Ibiza’s most influential nightlife brands is returning to the island with an ambitious tribute to the era that helped make it famous.

Manumission will take over 528 Ibiza on Saturday, September 26, for a 12-hour event built around the summer of 1998, one of the most celebrated periods in the party’s history.

The event will run from 5:00pm until 5:00am, transforming the entire venue into an immersive recreation rather than simply staging a conventional club night.

A full-day-and-night journey through 1998

The organisers are deliberately presenting the event as a recreation of an era rather than a straightforward nostalgia party.

The soundtrack will be based around the music of 1998, while the production will take guests through five connected immersive environments across the 528 Ibiza site.

The organisers have promised music, performance, art, drag queens, dancers, “beautiful mischief” and unexpected encounters as part of the experience.

The idea is to turn the entire venue into a theatrical world rather than confining the experience to a single dancefloor.

Five immersive worlds will tell one story

The 2026 return is particularly ambitious because the five different spaces are connected by one overarching narrative.

The concept moves from daytime entertainment into the nighttime experience, with different parts of the venue representing stages in the story.

This approach reflects the original Manumission philosophy, in which the party could feel more like a theatrical production than a conventional DJ event.

According to the latest storyline announcement, this is the first time in 528 Ibiza’s history that all of its spaces have been connected through a single immersive narrative.

The music is being kept deliberately mysterious

One of the unusual aspects of the event is the lack of a conventional advance lineup.

528 Ibiza currently lists the main lineup as TBA, reinforcing the organisers' decision to keep much of the musical programme secret before the event.

An exception has now been revealed for the late-night programme, with David Morales confirmed for Le Théâtre Pink Pussy from 11:00pm.

The mystery is part of the concept.

Instead of encouraging audiences to buy tickets because of a particular superstar DJ, Manumission is placing the focus on the overall experience and the world being created around it.

David Morales joins the late-night experience

David Morales is one of the most respected names in house music and has a long history connected to the dancefloors of the 1990s.

His presence is particularly appropriate for a concept centred on recreating the musical atmosphere of 1998.

Morales is scheduled to perform from 11:00pm at Le Théâtre Pink Pussy, one of the event's dedicated spaces.

The organisers have not yet disclosed the full schedule for the earlier part of the day.

Manumission was about far more than music

The party became famous because of its combination of clubbing and theatrical entertainment.

During its most influential years, Manumission developed a reputation for performances, dancers, elaborate characters, provocative humour and a willingness to blur the boundaries between nightclub, theatre and spectacle.

That approach helped establish the party as one of Ibiza's most recognisable nightlife brands.

The September 26 event is designed to revisit that philosophy rather than simply reproduce old DJ sets.

The summer of 1998 is the central inspiration

The year chosen for the recreation is significant.

By 1998, Manumission had become one of Ibiza's defining nightlife phenomena, attracting international audiences and developing a reputation for unpredictable performances and large-scale entertainment.

The event organisers are now using that particular summer as the creative reference point.

Everything from the musical programme to the visual environments is being designed to evoke the atmosphere of the period.

‘Your phone is useless’ is part of the message

The event's promotional concept includes the provocative line “Your phone is useless”, a deliberate reference to the very different relationship clubbers had with nightlife before smartphones and social media.

The organisers are positioning the event around being physically present and interacting with the environment rather than documenting it.

That philosophy is consistent with 528 Ibiza's broader Manumission-inspired Saturdays programme, which has emphasised freedom, unpredictability and being fully immersed in the moment. (528ibiza.com)

The entire 528 site becomes part of the production

The scale of the venue allows Manumission to recreate the idea of a constantly changing environment.

Outdoor and indoor areas will be used as separate but connected worlds, allowing the audience to move between different forms of entertainment throughout the 12 hours.

The organisers are promising not only music but also live performers, visual art, drag performances, dancers and theatrical surprises.

That means guests are not expected simply to remain in front of one stage.

Exploration is part of the format.

The return is part of a larger Manumission weekend

The September 26 event is actually the centrepiece of a wider three-day Manumission programme called Le Weekend.

Activities begin on Friday, September 25 and continue through Sunday, September 27, with the full 528 Ibiza takeover taking place on Saturday.

The weekend structure is designed to extend the celebration beyond a single party and create a broader return to the Manumission universe.

Mike and Claire Manumission are behind the return

The event is being directed by Manumission co-creators Mike and Claire, who were behind the original party and its distinctive approach to Ibiza nightlife.

Their involvement is important because the event is not being presented as an external brand revival using the Manumission name.

Instead, it is being developed by the people who created the original concept, using the same emphasis on performance, creativity and unpredictability. (ibiza-spotlight.com)

528 Ibiza offers a very different setting from the original Manumission years

The new Manumission experience will take place in the Benimussa Hills at 528 Ibiza, rather than the venues associated with its original era.

That difference allows the organisers to create a new interpretation of the concept.

528's multiple spaces, outdoor areas and large-scale production infrastructure give the team room to build the five-world narrative across the venue.

The result is intended to feel less like a reproduction and more like a modern version of what Manumission represented.

A deliberate alternative to conventional Ibiza closings

The event is also arriving at an interesting point in the Ibiza season.

September is filled with traditional closing-season parties built around major DJ lineups and increasingly sophisticated production.

Manumission is taking a different approach by making the experience itself the headline.

The event's visual world, storyline, performers and unexpected moments are as important to the concept as the DJs.

The spirit of 1998 meets a modern Ibiza audience

The challenge for any revival of a historic nightlife brand is avoiding a purely nostalgic experience.

Manumission's organisers appear to be addressing that by using 1998 as inspiration rather than trying to freeze the concept in the past.

The music references the era, but the production is being created specifically for 2026.

The result is intended to introduce younger audiences to the spirit of Manumission while giving longtime Ibiza followers an opportunity to reconnect with a formative period in the island's clubbing history.

The event is already selling tickets

Current ticket information shows general admission at €98, with a resident and worker ticket available at €49, subject to the stated entry conditions.

The €150 Hospitality Terrace package is currently listed as sold out, while hospitality terrace tables are marked complete.

The current availability demonstrates strong interest even though the full lineup remains undisclosed.

A night designed around surprise

That uncertainty is central to the Manumission approach.

The organisers have repeatedly suggested that guests should arrive without expecting a conventional sequence of headliners and stage times.

Instead, the event is designed to unfold as a story, with different spaces, characters and performances appearing throughout the experience.

It is a format that places discovery at the heart of the night.

Why the Manumission revival matters

Manumission played an important role in changing perceptions of what an Ibiza club night could be.

It showed that nightlife could incorporate theatre, comedy, performance, fashion, art and spectacle without losing its connection to music.

Its influence can still be seen in the increasingly theatrical approach taken by many modern Ibiza productions.

The 2026 return therefore represents more than another heritage event.

It offers a chance to examine how one of Ibiza's most unconventional club concepts can be adapted for a new generation.

September 26 at 528 Ibiza

Manumission will take over 528 Ibiza on Saturday, September 26 from 5:00pm until 5:00am.

The event will feature five immersive worlds inspired by the summer of 1998, combining music, performance, art, drag queens, dancers and theatrical surprises.

David Morales is confirmed from 11:00pm at Le Théâtre Pink Pussy, while the wider lineup remains largely under wraps.

With the organisers deliberately recreating the spirit rather than simply replaying the past, the return of Manumission could become one of the most distinctive nostalgia-driven events of Ibiza's 2026 season.

For 12 hours, 528 Ibiza is being transformed into a different version of Ibiza entirely.

And this time, the year is 1998.
