Cala Escondida has raised more than €3,600 during a special solidarity event in Ibiza supporting communities affected by severe flooding in Nepal.

The fundraising afternoon took place on Thursday, September 10, bringing together music, live performances, raffles and a strong public response around a cause that has a decade-long connection with the Ibiza community.

Supporting Nepal After the Floods

The event was organised by Tess Harmsen, the driving force behind Cala Escondida, together with Amavida ONGD.

This year's fundraiser focused not only on continuing support for a school in Nepal, but also on helping families affected by the devastating floods that hit parts of the country in August.

According to Amavida, the floods did not directly affect the school supported by the organisation, but its team has been working in some of the hardest-hit areas.

Food, Blankets and Shelter

Amavida's local team in Nepal has been providing emergency assistance to affected communities, including food and blankets.

Temporary tents have also been installed to provide shelter for children who have lost their families.

The organisation says the school itself is expected to accommodate orphaned children from some of the worst-affected areas, providing them with a safe place to live and continue their education.

A Community Fundraiser in Ibiza

The Cala Escondida event combined entertainment with fundraising, using raffles, reusable cup sales and live music to generate donations.

More than €3,600 was raised during the afternoon.

The event also continued a tradition of using Ibiza's community and hospitality scene to support projects thousands of kilometres away in the Himalayas.

Ten Years of Ibiza and Nepal

The relationship between Cala Escondida and Amavida began following the devastating earthquake that struck Nepal in 2015.

A year later, Tess Harmsen travelled to Nepal as a volunteer, beginning a partnership that has now reached its tenth year.

Since then, Cala Escondida and its community have continued supporting Amavida's work in the country.

One of the fundraising initiatives has been the reusable cup system at Cala Escondida, with unclaimed deposits donated to the school's projects.

A School Supporting 500 Children

The school supported by Amavida is located around three hours from Kathmandu, near the Tibetan border.

It provides education to approximately 500 children from low-income families living in remote mountain villages.

Students receive education in English, daily meals and school materials, with financial support coming in part from Ibiza.

Around €20,000 Raised Each Year

The collaboration has helped generate approximately €20,000 annually through different initiatives and donations.

Those funds have contributed to rebuilding and expanding the school, establishing a dining facility and providing transport for students who would otherwise face difficulties reaching the centre.

This year's campaign adds emergency support for communities affected by the floods to that longer-term educational work.

Cala Escondida's New Chapter

The fundraiser also comes during an important period for Cala Escondida itself.

After 11 seasons at Racó d'en Xic near Cala Comte, the well-known chiringuito has moved to a new location at the southern end of Platja d'en Bossa for 2026.

Despite the change of location, its charitable relationship with Nepal has continued.

The latest fundraiser demonstrates how the Cala Escondida community has maintained that commitment while adapting to a new chapter on the island.

Ibiza Reaches the Himalayas

For ten years, this partnership has connected Ibiza with communities in one of Nepal's most remote regions.

The latest fundraising event continues that relationship at a particularly difficult moment, with part of the money raised now supporting families affected by the August floods as well as the ongoing work of the school.
