Manumission Reveals the Storyline Behind Its Highly Anticipated Ibiza Return

12 September 2026

Manumission has revealed more details about the immersive production planned for its long-awaited return to Ibiza, with the legendary 1998 season set to be recreated through a 12-hour experience at 528 Ibiza on Saturday, September 26.

The event will form the centrepiece of Le Weekend, with all five stages at 528 connected by a single narrative for the first time in the venue's five-year history. The outdoor and indoor spaces will be transformed into an interconnected world inspired by the characters, stories and atmosphere of Ibiza in the late 1990s.

Five Stages, One Story

Rather than presenting five separate dance floors, Manumission plans to connect the entire 528 site through one continuous storyline.

The experience will begin with open-air performances before evolving into an after-dark production, allowing the audience to move between different environments as the day progresses.

Each stage will have its own atmosphere, soundtrack and cast, while remaining part of the wider Manumission narrative.

The Manumission Motel Returns

At the heart of the production will be a three-storey recreation of the infamous Manumission Motel.

The set will act as the central backdrop for a theatrical production inspired by stories from Ibiza's notorious 1990s nightlife era.

The concept takes inspiration from The Motel: High Times in 90s Ibiza, bringing characters and situations from that period into a contemporary live production.

Theatre, Dance and Controlled Chaos

The production will be directed by British choreographer Jodie Blemmings and will feature dancers from London's professional dance scene, including Paris Fitzpatrick.

Drag queens, acrobats and eccentric characters will form part of the cast, alongside surreal encounters and improvised moments designed to create the unpredictable atmosphere for which Manumission became known.

The organisers describe the experience as a living world rather than a conventional club event.

DJs Are Only Part of the Experience

Music remains central, but the organisers are making clear that the DJs will represent only one part of the production.

Performance, theatre and audience participation will all play major roles.

The idea reflects the original Manumission philosophy, where the boundary between performer and audience was often deliberately blurred and the night was as much about spectacle and freedom as it was about the music.

David Morales and Carl Craig Confirmed

The full line-up remains under wraps, but two major names have already been confirmed.

New York house legend David Morales will perform alongside Detroit techno pioneer Carl Craig.

Both artists have strong connections to Ibiza and bring very different musical histories to the event, fitting with Manumission's broader approach of combining house, techno and performance.

The rest of the line-up remains a closely guarded secret.

Phones Will Be Restricted

The organisers are also taking an unusual approach to recording the event.

A strict no-filming and no-photography policy will be in operation, with rules governing mobile-phone use during the experience.

The policy reflects Manumission's intention to create an event that exists primarily in the moment, rather than becoming an experience dominated by cameras and social-media content.

Bringing 1998 Back to Life

The year 1998 sits at the centre of the project.

For Manumission, it represents one of the most memorable periods in the party's history and an era when Ibiza nightlife was becoming increasingly theatrical, experimental and culturally distinctive.

Rather than simply reproducing the music or decor of the period, the new production aims to recreate the freedom, humour, excess and unpredictability associated with that era.

A Different Kind of Ibiza Return

Manumission's return is notable because the concept disappeared from Ibiza for many years before its 2026 comeback.

The new production is therefore designed as a continuation of the original philosophy rather than a straightforward nostalgia event.

The combination of live theatre, dance, art, music and audience participation is intended to introduce the Manumission spirit to a new generation while giving those who remember the original era a chance to step back into its world.

Twelve Hours at 528 Ibiza

Manumission will take over 528 Ibiza from 5pm until 5am on Saturday, September 26.

The event will form the centrepiece of Le Weekend, with the entire venue transformed into a five-stage immersive environment.

With the Manumission Motel at its centre, a large cast of performers and a still-secret DJ programme, the production promises to be considerably more than a conventional club night.

After years away from the island, Manumission is returning with a concept built around one of its defining ideas: Ibiza nightlife as theatre, spectacle, music and complete escape.
