The Municipal Library of Can Ventosa in Ibiza Town has temporarily closed its doors again as construction work continues on the expansion of the Can Ventosa cultural centre.

The library is closed from Tuesday, October 6, through Thursday, October 15, inclusive. The closure is related to health and safety considerations connected with the ongoing building works.

It is the second temporary closure linked to the project in just over a month. The library also closed during September while construction work was taking place.

Can Botino Offers an Alternative

During the closure, library users can use the Municipal Library of Can Botino in Dalt Vila.

Can Botino is located at Carrer de Pere Tur, 1, and also houses the Historical Archive of Ibiza and Formentera.

During the temporary closure of Can Ventosa, Can Botino is open from Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 20:00 without interruption.

This provides an alternative for residents who need access to library services while work continues at Can Ventosa.

Returning Borrowed Books

People who currently have books on loan from Can Ventosa do not need to wait for the library to reopen to return them.

The books can be placed in the exterior return box at Can Ventosa on Carrer de Pere Francès.

Users can also continue accessing the municipality's digital library services, including Digitalia Català and Digitalia. Questions can be sent to the library through biblioteca@eivissa.es.

Expansion Work Continues

The temporary closure comes as the wider expansion of Can Ventosa continues.

The project is designed to substantially increase the space available for the Patronato de Música's activities. According to the project information reported by the municipality and local media, the music facilities will increase from around 300 square metres to more than 1,200 square metres, distributed across two additional floors.

The expanded facilities are planned to include new classrooms, rehearsal rooms, offices, a teachers' room and other services, as well as a large rehearsal hall capable of accommodating more than 100 musicians.

The building itself reached its centenary in 2025.

A Major Investment in Can Ventosa

The expansion forms part of Ibiza Town's wider programme of strategic investments aimed at modernising the city.

The project was put out to tender with a base budget of approximately €2.3 million excluding VAT. The public procurement record shows that the construction contract was subsequently awarded to Hermanos Parrot S.A. for €2,222,222.22 before VAT.

The larger figure of around €2.7 million has also been cited in reporting about the overall project, but it should not be confused with the pre-VAT construction contract amount.

When Will the Library Reopen?

The current closure runs through October 15.

The library is expected to reopen to the public on Friday, October 16, although this remains dependent on the progress and safety conditions associated with the works.

Until then, users can continue using Can Botino, the exterior book-return box at Can Ventosa and the municipality's digital library resources.

For residents who regularly use Can Ventosa, the temporary closure is another short-term disruption caused by the construction work, with the wider expansion intended to provide significantly improved cultural and music facilities once completed.
