The IES Sa Colomina community in Ibiza gathered on Monday, September 28, to remember 16-year-old Daniel Fernández Ferrer, who died following a serious bicycle accident in the city during the early hours of Sunday.

The tribute at the secondary school was held privately, with classmates, teachers, former classmates and family members coming together to remember the teenager.

Daniel's death has caused widespread grief among the educational and sporting communities with which he was connected.

A Private Tribute at Sa Colomina

The IES Sa Colomina had announced the tribute for 14:15 on Monday.

The school and its parents' association had invited students, families and friends to attend and remember Daniel, who was described by the educational community as a cheerful, lively and kind young person who had left a lasting impression on those around him.

The event itself was held in private, with the school asking media representatives not to enter.

Many of Daniel's friends and classmates attended wearing black, while flowers were brought to the school and to the area where the accident occurred.

Former classmates and teachers from IES Isidor Macabich also attended the tribute at Sa Colomina. Daniel had previously studied there for four years.

Daniel's Education and Life in Ibiza

Daniel was studying a nautical module at IES Sa Colomina at the time of his death.

He had also spent nine years as a student at the Conservatory of Ibiza and Formentera, which also published a message mourning his death and remembering him as an important and much-loved member of its community.

Daniel had also been connected with the Puig d'en Valls basketball club, where he shared time with other young people from the island.

His connections with education, music and sport meant that the news of his death was felt across several different communities in Ibiza.

The Fatal Bicycle Accident

The accident occurred at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, on Calle Cala Llonga in Ibiza.

According to the reports available, Daniel was riding a bicycle when he collided with a wall. The precise circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation.

Emergency medical teams from 061 attended the scene. Daniel suffered cardiorespiratory arrest but was resuscitated and transferred to the Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario in critical condition.

Local residents have told Periódico de Ibiza that they had previously reported concerns about speeding and alleged racing involving cars, motorcycles, bicycles and scooters in the area. One complaint submitted through the city's Línea Verde system in July 2025 requested measures to slow traffic on the road.

Those reports concern broader neighbourhood road-safety issues and should not be interpreted as establishing the cause of Daniel's particular accident.

According to the same local reporting, the Ibiza Town Council installed four green bollards in the area on Monday following the accident.
