More British visitors travelled to Ibiza and Formentera during the first half of 2026, but the total amount they spent on the two islands fell compared with the same period in 2025, according to tourism statistics from the Balearic Islands.

Between January and June 2026, 315,375 visitors from the United Kingdom travelled to Ibiza and Formentera, an increase of 3,690 compared with the first six months of 2025.

At the same time, combined expenditure from British visitors fell from approximately €339.7 million to €335.5 million.

That represents an increase of around 1.2% in the number of British visitors, alongside a fall of approximately 1.2% in their combined spending.

British Market Remains Important to the Pitiusas

The United Kingdom remained one of the most important international tourism markets for Ibiza and Formentera during the first half of the year.

The 315,375 British visitors placed the UK among the largest foreign markets for the Pitiusas, despite changes in the performance of other international markets.

The number of visitors from the Netherlands increased strongly during the same period, while French arrivals also grew. At the same time, the Italian market recorded a significant decline.

The British market therefore continued to provide a substantial volume of visitors even as its total expenditure moved in the opposite direction.

What the Spending Figures Actually Show

The combined spending figures are particularly interesting because visitor numbers and expenditure moved in different directions.

British visitors spent approximately:

• €339.7 million from January to June 2025

• €335.5 million from January to June 2026

During the same period, the number of British visitors increased from approximately 311,989 to 315,375.

Using those figures, the average amount represented by total spending per visitor was approximately €1,089 in the first half of 2025, compared with approximately €1,064 in 2026.

That is an indicative reduction of around 2.3% per visitor.

However, this should not be interpreted as evidence that every British visitor spent less. The figures measure aggregate tourist expenditure and visitor numbers across the two islands. They do not explain how individual visitors distributed their spending between accommodation, restaurants, nightlife, transport, shopping and other activities.

Overall Tourism Spending Increased

The British figures form part of a much larger tourism picture.

Total tourist expenditure in Ibiza and Formentera increased from approximately €1.408 billion during the first half of 2025 to around €1.525 billion in the first half of 2026.

That represents an increase of roughly €117 million, or about 8.3%.

The overall increase therefore came despite lower combined expenditure from both British and German visitors.

Spanish visitors, meanwhile, increased substantially and their total expenditure also rose, helping offset declines from some traditional international markets.

July Brought More Tourism Spending

The picture continued to develop during the summer.

According to data released by the Balearic Islands Statistics Institute, tourist expenditure in Ibiza and Formentera reached approximately €1.059 billion in July 2026, an increase of 6.4% compared with July 2025.

Average expenditure per tourist during the month was around €1,489, while average daily expenditure was approximately €271.

Among international visitors, British tourists recorded average daily expenditure of €224 in July.

British visitors also remained the largest international market during July, with around 151,000 arrivals to Ibiza and Formentera.

UK Remains Spain's Biggest Tourism Spending Market

The importance of British tourism extends beyond Ibiza and Formentera.

National data from Spain's National Statistics Institute shows that tourists resident in the United Kingdom generated the highest cumulative international tourist expenditure during the first seven months of 2026, accounting for 16.9% of the total.

UK visitors spent €3.038 billion across Spain during that period, an increase of 4.8% compared with the same period of 2025.

This wider national figure is important context: the reduction recorded in Ibiza and Formentera during the first six months does not mean British tourists were spending less throughout Spain.

A Changing Tourism Market

The figures suggest that Ibiza and Formentera's tourism market is changing, with different visitor groups contributing differently to overall growth.

The British market remains substantial, with more than 315,000 visitors recorded during the first half of the year and another approximately 151,000 arrivals during July.

At the same time, the increase in total tourism expenditure across the Pitiusas shows that the islands' overall tourism economy continued to generate more revenue despite weaker spending from some traditional markets.

For Ibiza, the more useful takeaway is therefore not that British visitors are simply spending less, but that their numbers and spending are no longer moving in exactly the same direction.

As the island continues to attract large numbers of British visitors, the composition of tourism spending is evolving alongside changes in other European and domestic markets.
