A 48-year-old man is in critical condition after suffering burns to 90% of his body in a fire at a precarious structure in the Casa Lola settlement on Camí des Jondals, in the municipality of Sant Josep de sa Talaia, on Sunday morning.

The man, a Paraguayan national and an occupant of the structure, was taken to Can Misses Hospital after being treated and stabilised at the scene. He remains in the hospital's intensive care unit.

Emergency Response

The SAMU 061 emergency coordination centre received the alert at approximately 7:10am after receiving information about a fire in a wooded area that was affecting a precarious structure.

A medicalised ambulance and a basic life-support ambulance were mobilised because of the seriousness of the situation.

Medical teams treated the man at the scene before transferring him to Can Misses. The hospital had been placed on pre-alert and the Serious Trauma Code was activated because of the severity of his injuries.

Firefighters Attend the Scene

The Ibiza Island Fire Service sent six firefighters to the incident in two vehicles, including a water-tank truck and a rural fire engine.

The firefighters intervened to deal with the blaze affecting the structure.

Guardia Civil Investigates

The Guardia Civil has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire.

The investigation is intended to establish how the fire started and how the incident occurred.

At this stage, no cause has been established publicly, so it would be premature to attribute the fire to a specific source or circumstance.

Man Remains in Critical Condition

The injured man remains in critical condition at Can Misses with burns affecting approximately 90% of his body.
